Buy recommendations Any info on the 12" Derya Tm22?
I have been looking at getting a TM22 as my first purchase as a new PAL holder. Obviously, I've been down the rabbit hole and back looking at either the pro 18" or the 16". I heard there is maybe a 12" version becoming available in June...does anyone have any info on this? I haven't been able to find much beyond someone mentioning it in comments across some other posts/forums etc.

A bit lighter, easier to store or carry. Can improve or worsen the balance depending on the gun.
And around 12" is when you hit diminishing returns for .22 muzzle energy. If you want every last drop of energy out of the cartridge you can go with an 18" barrel, but a 12" will get you about 95% of the way there.2

I always get the length rules mixed up. Would the 12" barrel make it Restricted?

For your first rifle, I recommend the 16" or 18" barrel Pro over a 12" barrel.
The main reason I suggest this is the longer sight radius. As a new shooter, building your sight picture discipline is a core skill that you will use for the rest of your shooting career. It is difficult to build that skill with a short barrel.
Secondly: the TM22 will not group tightly with a short 12" barrel. You will regularly land your shots in the B / C / D zones on your target at 50 yards. That will get frustrating while you are building your trigger pull discipline and your breathing technique.
A short barrel will be fun for the novelty, for sure. I suggest that the 16" or 18" rifle will serve you better in the long run

What sight radius? The TM22 Pro (or any alloy TM22 for that matter) does not have iron sights. Only the plastic bodied Feather has iron sights, but since they have polymer receivers they are far less accurate.

I have a 9” barrel 10/22 and I am shocked how well it shoots - it can hit a spinner out to 100 yards relatively easily. While it probably won’t win any precision shooting contests, it’s really fun to shoot. Shorter barrels also make the gun much louder too.
I do wish we could get a 9mm or bigger caliber “sporting” 🤨 rifle.

My fudd lore hound is growling at the door. Here's my take on the new SBR vs aluminum 18.5 decision. 11.5-13in barrel is a common choice for carbines in the states for a reason. Less barrel (when feasible) is always a bonus for weight and maneuverability. In 22LR a 12in barrel is plenty accurate and velocity loss is not significant. We land centred hits on a 2/3 torso with my Ruger 22/45 Lite at 50yds, it's sporting a 4.4" pencil thin barrel. Smoking golf balls with it at 25yds is always very doable!
However, you're 100% correct that for iron sight usage, the long handguard 18.5" model would have a longer (better) sight radius. That being said, embrace the future! You're modern carbine deserves a modern optic. A red dot facilitates learning a heads up/target focused, eyes lead gun follows shooting style. IMO this is a better way to learn the fundamentals vs iron sights. You also can run normal flip up irons on a TM22 by getting an MLOK riser for the handguard. See my post below for an example. It is coming. I have heard June. Canada's Gun Store has them listed at $524.99 for the black but not yet available for sale. SKU: TM22-PRO-12-BL
