Misc TM22 Dry fire with chamber flag

Since I got downvoted in a comment in a different thread, here is a video showing dry firing the TM22 with a chamber flag inside. Not sure if it can cause any damage, seems fine to me for occasional dry fire.

You can actually just dry fire tm22 without that, there is a cross pin making sure ghe firing pin dont overtravel and hit the chamber face

Really??? Wow! Super helpful info actually. I haven't delved too deep into the internals of the rifle yet, but I know you're an expert on them so I trust your advice here. So no risk of dimpling the chamber face or snapping the pin?

Derya is actually a great company, I like that they listen to customers and do smart stuff like this, and have implemented a few minor fixes on the rifle design (buffer issue).

I stumbled across their Reddit account a bit ago and requested they make a 22mag semi auto similar to the TM22, because it would probably sell like crazy in Canada and they actually got back to me. They have a 22mag rifle in the works, but I don't know much else about it, that's all they said.

Still hoping to grab one of your charging handles sometime for my rifle, looks like a great kit

Ya, try dryfire on a dirty chamber you won't see a mark

Good to know. I couldn’t find any definite answers until now.

Good thing you had those super duper tier 1 operator gloves on

Haha. It was the only glove next to my safe and cant be showing skin on reddit. I am a proper lad. Next time I will use my feet.

I’m sorry but what does your skin colour have to do with anything lol

Likely conscious of personally identifiable information posted online. You’d be amazed the picture you can build of someone just starting from their public profiles. This info can be used against you by law enforcement, ad agencies or even victimizing you in a crime.

likely for opsec reasons

With the chamber flag in the bolt is out of battery, where is the hammer impacting?

It’s likely hitting somewhere unintended on the back of the bolt and not the firing pin. Probably not a good idea to be doing that unless you want to break your hammer and mess up your bolt.

As others have stated, not wise to dry fire with the bolt out of battery. One of the big upsides of the TM22 is that you can get reps actuating the safety and have a similar length/weight trigger pull even after the hammer has dropped. This means you don't need to go through the hassle of cycling the bolt countless times during dry fire practice. If I were you this is how I would do my target transition, up drill, etc. dry fire practice. For actually learning the break point of the trigger, you'll want to reset the hammer by cycling the bolt between reps though.

Yeah sounds like I should stop. Especially if the TM22 has that cross pin as Alex has said above.

Definitely. Could have something to do with the left side extractor breaking off on your rifle as well.

Ive checked many times, the extractors don’t engage, and either way dry firing or not i still have to move the bolt back to remove the flag.

Ive also went through a few more hundred rounds and zero issues without the left extractor.

I think I accidentally threw out my chamber flag when I got mine. Doesn't matter for shooting at home, but I'll have to buy one if I ever start going to a range with it..

Mine never came with it 😞

I have bolt holf oprn kit for range

1

u/Response-Cheap Apr 22 '26

That's right I forgot about that. I saw it on your store. I've already got the latest iteration of your top charging handle kit. Does the bolt hold open kit work with the top charging handle? If so, if I ever decide to take it to the range, I'll buy your BHO kit for sure. Thanks for the reminder!

Yes, it only works with my top charger.

Modern rimefire is mostly all designed for dry fire. The TM22 definitely is.

2

u/Enough_Challenge7264 Apr 22 '26

Why is it able to fire out of battery?

3

u/KnowNothingInvestor Apr 22 '26

My thoughts exactly… that’s not good

3

u/EnggyAlex Alex's Homebrew Apr 22 '26

It actually wont have enough energy to set off the round with hammer follow

1

u/Enough_Challenge7264 Apr 22 '26

You sure about that? .22LR rimfire is notoriously unpredictable/unreliable. Proper hammer strikes 3 or 4 times, then it'll go off on the 5th. Who's to say with 100% certainty that a .22LR CANNOT detonate out of battery due to not enough energy in the hammer fall?

Because of geometry, the hammer fall on the bolt body rather than on the firing pin when its not in battery, and sometimes it have enough energy to hammer the round into chamber but you will only see a tiny mark, not enough to set off the round.

majority of semiauto dont have out of battery trigger disconnect because the other name of that is called auto sear.

1

u/Enough_Challenge7264 Apr 22 '26

None of my semi-auto .22's will fire out of battery. Not a one of them.

10/22 does, i don't know what other rifle you have but they mostly all do, majority of bolt action rifles and semi auto handguns do as well. they wont fire out of battery mostly but they will allow hammer/striker fall when bolt is not closed

1

u/KnowNothingInvestor Apr 22 '26

Wait so the gun will go off if it’s not completely seated in battery? That’s not good…

2

u/EnggyAlex Alex's Homebrew Apr 22 '26

vast majority of semi-auto does that, because the mechanism to disconnect the trigger until fully chambered is called autosear
