Gun and gear reviews Should I get a Baikal shotgun?

I’m in the market for my first shotgun, mainly for clays. I’ve been seeing over under and side by side Baikal shotguns for super cheap on intersurplus. Are these ultra cheap shotguns worth it or am I basically buying a project/scrap.

My dad shoots trap with a Baikal from intersurplus. I shoot trap with a Sabbati jaguar from intersurplus. Both of them do great and I compete with mine so my vote is on getting a Baikal or another non-turkish intersurplus shotgun for sure

It’s a good tool, not much of a toy

I’ve heard that they can be a bit rough and unrefined. But would one still be okay for a complete beginner to shoot some clays or some other backwoods shooting?

I'm a firm believer in focusing on fit first. Figure out what is a good LOP for you, maybe by shouldering a bunch at a local gun store. When you get that figured out then grab one of those ones off intersurplus, but avoid ones that have play in the action. Beyond that, I say yeah fuckin send it. I got a cheapo sxs from them for upland hunts and the condition was better than I expected.

You’ll be fine. It’s just rough and cheap not terrible. Although, as you progress to pro players. This won’t sustain very extensive shooting

For sure. I have a Husqvarna from  them and blast clays like a beginner with it. Totally worth it.

The only place they might not be worth it is like a professional skeet shooter who is going through hundreds and thousands of rounds. The old guns might not hold up that a huge huge volume of shooting like some of the pros do.

I bought a Baikal o/I off gunpost. Really nice for the money. Swings and points nicely for me for clays. Triggers could be nicer but you get what you pay for.

Check out intersurplus.com they have alot of options in that price range like Valmet, Brno, Husqavarna and Beretta. Baikal shotguns are great but in my opinion the manufacturers I named are superior and truly the best value in that price range.

The Brno ZHXXX models are some funky guns! The pivot is above the bottom barrel so the whole block has to slide back in order for the barrels to swing down! It's also just a push button to take the whole front off, no need to remove the forestock. Supposedly they can be less reliable but if you're diligent with your cleaning it should be fine.

Solid shotguns, you will be very happy. I have 3 O/U and they are amazing. Still trying to get a semi version.

I had a break single shot 12G and it kicked like a mule but it was fun as hell so I say go for it!

The first shotgun I ever shot was a 20 gauge single shot Baikal.

Hell yeah. I think they're cheap enough that you can get some decent use out of them but doing a little work if you want to. Either way, for an OU or SxS they're probably a pretty accessible avenue for entry.

Get both? Old and new baby

The maverick 88 is also on my radar, they seem a little harder to find these days (especially ones that come with both barrels).

If you're all gonna downvote me, at least say why . A maverick is in the same price range, got chokes and more ammo capacity.
