anyone thinking of getting the restricted version? or no because if it gets banned the feds will know where to come looking?

Nobody is bringing in the restricted version for the time being (I asked a few shops). Best to just get the NR; if and when the restricted gets imported, you can sell your NR, or swap barrels, handguard and gas block and register it as restricted.
