I have a Howa mini in 762x39.. if I had to do it over again I'd get the CZ, but primarily because the factory folding stock on the Howa was absolutely terrible. A Howa in the oryx chassis would be a different story.. I ended up buying a oryx for the rifle because the factory stock was so bad.

Sorry to hear the hoea folding stick sucked! Was it the Excel stock ???
I do enjoy my cz trail a Lotz though I was shocked as the recoil and blast from the 16 inch barrel. Totally different than my 20 inch sks. I didn't think the few inches less would make a difference but it's quite different.
That being said, the folding stock on the Trail also kinda sucks. Wobbly unless you mod it or put a buffer tube adaptor and a different stock on it

Yeah, what I was asking was if it was the Excel stock on the Howa? Actually. Its called the mini excl stock, and looks like this
I only ask because I've noticed that howa as a decent alternative to the CZ trail, but if the stock sucks, then I won't mention it to other folks

Yeah, that stock is the one that sucks. But maybe it's fine if you want a compact bush gun? I use it as a bench gun.. so it sucked for that.

I have a CZ600 AMERICAN in 7.62x39. everything about it is awesome and high quality. I love it.

I bought a CZ Lux in 7.62x39 and now sortov wish I'd held out for the new Rugger Scouts that take AK mags. They will basically offer everything I wanted from the LUX but for potentially 400 cad less.
That said the LUX is easily the nicest bolt action I've owned to date.

Cz 600 alpha vs Ruger ranch
I suppose the Ruger has a shorter barrel by 2 inch if you care about compactness.
However, the CZ is cheaper. I believe the CZ is better quality. Better trigger. Better accuracy. I'd go 600 Alpha all the way.
Even magazines, the Ruger mini 14 mags suck, so you have to go Lar mags. The CZ has a stock 5 round mag, but you can also buy 3d printed 12 round mags for cheap.
Now Cz 600 Trail vs the ruger.
Price is now more competitive. There are still trails on sale for 990 I believe.
Mags are now similar. 5 round proprietary mags. Both you can get the adaptors to run LAR mags. There is talk about a cz 600 trail proprietary mag from another redditor here, which would put a nice bonus for the CZ trail if you could get 20 round mags for it.
Barrel length is the same. Cz wins for overall length as it telescopes. CZ wins with the full rail making mounting irons better, or scopes. The trail also wins with mlock adding plenty of flex for accessories. Accuracy goes to the Ruger though. Trail Is lacking on Accuracy unless you swap out the stock for a folding stock or something. The "Stock" stock has some wiggle. Though honestly I question if the Ruger is better. Is the ruger a 1 moa gun in 7.62 x39? If not, then accuracy is the same for them.
So all in all, what do you want?
Do you want a combat rifle, that's easy to add iron sights to? Get the cz trail.
Care less about compactness, but want better accuracy, or are on a budget? Get the CZ 600 alpha.
Either way I wouldn't get the Ruger unless you could get an amazing deal on one. The days of $600 dollar Ruger Ranch guns are sadly over and ruger doesn't have the same value

for what's its worth i have the trail in .223 its action is buttery smooth compared to the ranch i tried.. also 223 comes with a 10 round mag and takes ar pmags

How are you finding the stock on the trail? I've read of folks putting shrink wrap on to take out the wiggle when it's fully extended

it does wiggle not gonna line,, that said i am able to hit 6 inch plates at 100 regularly with a bipod
it came with a back plate mounting for a buffer tube style stock
its really fun i recommend a break as the barrel is short, but yeah not a sub MOA rifle

I'm thinking about a break. First time shooting it, I was shocked st the blast compared to my sks (I have the 7.62 x39 version of the trail)
Like noticeably louder, more blast and more recoil. I guess the old 20 inch barrel heavy sks soaks up the recoil pretty good

Have a gen1 ranch in x39 and it’s awesome. Shoots any and all ammo very well. Love the short barrel. No issues with cycling and the bolt does smooth out after a few hundred cycles.
All that said, I’m sure the 600 is a nicer overall firearm. I’ve owned CZ rimfires and the quality for the price was incredible.. but I don’t think the CZ could be any more accurate than the ruger.
I like the heavy barrel on the ruger as it helps to balance the short length. Factory threaded is a nice touch.

I recently bought a Ruger American Gen 2 in 7.62 and it’s been fantastic so far, the quality on its great and haven’t had any issues. I’ll have to do some more testing but I’ve been really enjoying it.

Cz is probably better out of the box. Unfortunately they seem have very little aftermarket support.
If I got a ruger ranch, id probably wait until black friday, put it in an mdt lss3 that takes ar magazines and run 10-round LAR pistol magazines.
Id love to have a similar option with the 600, but it just dosent seem to be available anywhere.

They're quite expensive now. 1400-1500. They were 2/3rds that years ago. Are they worth it at that price? Genuinely curious.. I'd love to own one.

RAR Gen 1 in 7.62x39. My experience is it shoots fairly accurately using corrosive ammo.
I also printed a mag adapter so it can use AR15 mags, which permits 10 round XCR mags. I don't know if this is doable with the CZ.

I have the 1st gen ruger american in 7.62x39 and it does the job as far as a bolt action goes. I threw mine in an MDT LSS chassis so I could put on my own pistol grip and buffer tube + stock with cheek riser.
They don’t make AICS 7.62x39 magazines for the gen 1 compatible chassis but I found that 10 round 6ARC AICS magazines can fit 6-7 rounds with some slight modifications to keep the bullets from dipping down into the mag.
Works great as a practice rifle and shoots roughly 1MOA with spam can ammo and since it’s a bolt action cleaning is way quicker. Even as a base rifle it shoots really well but ultimately up to you if you want the CZ to shoot out the box or the American to tinker and customize down the road.

I have both but in 223. Tiger and build quality on the Cz are significantly better. I also put the RAR in a Magpul chassis and it weighs considerably more then the cz

I own a Ruger American ranch gen 2 in 7.62x39. And would say to probably get a CZ, definitely better quality, howa mini wouldn’t be a bad option either though. The Ruger was by far the cheapest option though importing it from the states

They lost my trust. Their responses to inquiries were very short and vague.
Nobody thinks they are participating in the confiscation as they keep stating they are not. I have yet to see any response from them to those point blank asking if they entered a contract to destroy guns for the Feds. Silence.

Its wierd and unexplicable. The whole buyback thing pissed me off. Then i found out about the new stocks for the ranger rifles was colt. At a cost of 1257 cad per rifle. Even tho they initially sold them the rifles.
Original C-19 Purchase: The initial contract for the rifles themselves was worth $32.8 million.
Total C-19 Program Value: With the additional stock replacement cost, the total expenditure for the Ranger rifles has risen to roughly $41.6 million.
Im still sour bout it, dont own any cz, i like the cz trail but that was my deciding factor. I mentioned a week or 2 ago "obligatory fuck cz" and reddit informed me i was wrong by the 10+ downdoots. Strange, i dont know why it swung the other way lately.

Oh and the cost per rifle after stocks replaced will be about 6k each. Compared to 14k each to take ours away i guess thats a steal.

I have a CZ600 alpha in 7.62x39 and it is a nicer rifle than my Ruger Americans. I still really like my Americans, but in terms of build, trigger and accuracy, I say the CZ600 is a bit better.
That said, I'm mainly referring to the Alpha model, the Trail model only has a 2moa guarantee on it, and guys report anywhere from 1-3moa with it.
The trigger on the CZ is much better.
But, I still love my RAR in 5.56, and I have a predator in 308 as well and enjoy them
