I suspect most of it was older guys who aren't as engaged in the community and may have just owned something like an M14. 

I think almost every PAL holder under 40 basically said "fuck you" to the government.

I do know a few older guys though who also said fuck you to the government, but I suspect most of the registrations were older folks.
