Considering they sell for over 3k these days (probably more, its been a minute since I checked), its more of a financial flex than anything

Nope, not really 'flexing on the poors' - just making use of scopes that I bought back in the day on a rifle that I can still use today. My AR's have been in the safe for too damn long.
