Shitpost / Memes Where do people unload their stuff

Where abouts do people unload their stuff that they no longer need or want I've tried gunpost and I've recently tried Townpost but I don't seem to have much luck with getting rid of this tacticool 12ga.

If you're not getting any bites on CGN or GunPost you're probably asking too much.

Good rule of thumb for pricing something is 75% of retail if it's in perfect condition. Less if it's not.

Any upgrades are essentially worthless for adding value because most people won't care.

Optics should be sold separately.

used prices went nuts during covid and never went back down like most in-store prices did. so many people think their shotgun that is $900 new should sell for $850 firm. or people selling ammo for calibers you cant really shoot right now for retail price "bUt yoU sAve tHe tAX"

pre covid i was regularly getting guns 40-50% lower then retail price. especially if you made a wanted ad asking for X gun in Y price range. this was before wanted ads just attracted nothing but scammers.

Gunpost prices are insane

22

u/SpectreBallistics Spectre Ballistics International (Verified) Apr 06 '26

Kinda. You see the insane ones because they don't sell. Properly priced stuff does sell quick.

u/mwmwmwmwmmdw Apr 06 '26

Properly priced stuff does sell quick.

partly why i bother with gunpost less and less. you are constantly fighting against retired fudds who can drive 2 hours away and drop 2k on a rifle on a moments notice on a tuesday afternoon. for us that work its hard to find a good deal where the person is willing to wait until saturday or something to sell to you.

2

u/ssgfrmrswrp Apr 06 '26

Makes sense, some of the stuff I see on there is at full retail price

9

u/SpectreBallistics Spectre Ballistics International (Verified) Apr 06 '26

And that stuff will not sell. Stuff that's priced well sells fast.

if they say price firm or the ad is up for months i can assume the person is being foolish about the price

4

u/Why_Am_I_Here_1999 Apr 06 '26

Honestly I feel it may be a little more north than the 75 but I have gotten bites just all want to trade for stuff I'm not fully interested but I'm not upset about that because I did say in the add I'm willing to trade

I mean I listed it because I know people would offer lower, and it's not Turkish but it's a fair point, and anyone who's selling a used gun will have taken it apart( or At least should have to deep clean it)

7

u/kaydenb3 Apr 06 '26

Nothing wrong with posting a firm price and not taking a cent less. I find it’s quite common on Gunpost. Or at least more common than other buy&sells I’ve experienced. Then do regular price drops until it’s gone

1

u/Why_Am_I_Here_1999 Apr 06 '26

I'm also not saying every person will like it, I will say most people like the stock and forend that I do have on it because I have had 4 different people try and purchase just the stock/ forend because they constantly sell out.

3

u/illknowitwhenireddit Apr 06 '26

Then put the originals back on and sell the gun as is and sell the stock separately. You'll likely make more money this way

3

u/SpectreBallistics Spectre Ballistics International (Verified) Apr 06 '26

Honestly I feel it may be a little more north than the 75

I get what you're saying, but it's probably not, especially if it's a current in-production gun.

If you actually want to sell it, list it for whatever the absolute minimum you'd take for it. Just say no to low ballers.

3

u/KalashnikovParty Apr 06 '26

that’s not nessecarily 100 percent of the case.  A while back i was selling a Maverick 88 for 250 but still waited hell of a long time before i got a legit buyer who wasn’t lowballing me. Sometimes supply and demand for certain guns may influence how many offers you get

9

u/MydadisGon3 Apr 06 '26

I also know that the vast majority of people would rather trust retail with a (relatively) expensive purchase rather than go third party/used. especially on something as commercially available as the 88

While retailers are required to keep that info, and it's dumb, for the feds to actually get that info is somewhat difficult.

Realistically they don't even have the manpower to handle those records if they got them.

1

u/Tangen7 Apr 06 '26

This has been a successful sales model for me. You can push to 80-90 or above regular price depending on demand and rarity. The market is flooded with tacticool pumps though, so keep it low and include shipping in your asking price. Low price or keep waiting, honestly. You could try townpost if it's still a thing, but that site always seemed a bit sketchy to me.

Every time I post something, I kick myself for not pricing it higher since it usually sells immediately with a bunch of offers.

7

u/mwmwmwmwmmdw Apr 06 '26

hello, is this still available?

14

u/PopperChopper Apr 06 '26

It’s really simple, it’s the same answer for everyone who can’t sell something - you’re asking too much.

11

u/Kid-On-Reddit- Apr 06 '26

Try consignment at your local gun store

6

u/Previous_Search3122 Apr 06 '26

An over priced used firearm that isn't selling won't sell in a consignment store either when they have to add their cut on-top of the purchase price.

1

u/Kid-On-Reddit- Apr 06 '26

Good point

2

u/Previous_Search3122 Apr 06 '26

The truth the OP is dancing around is the fact they want too much for their clapped out firearm.

one weird constant i saw on the used market is people from the east coast never would ship.

3

u/stonecolddeezausted Apr 06 '26

Yeah I’ve noticed that too.

3

u/Why_Am_I_Here_1999 Apr 06 '26

That would definitely be a hindrance lol but I did say I would shit but I'm near one of the biggest cities in Canada

2

u/bosnanic Apr 06 '26

Never understood posts that say no shipping and you look and they are in a rural area 3hrs away from the nearest city, they would have to have an amazing deal to justify a 6hrs drive. It's so simple to ship something and requires no extra steps compared to a regular parcel so why limit your buyer pool so much?

10

u/bosnanic Apr 06 '26

It sounds like you have a bunch of mods on a stock shotgun why not just take all the extras off and sell them individually on one post and then sell the shotgun on it's own at a discount?

Most people looking to mod their gun just want the parts and most people looking for a gun just want the gun. Very little people want an already modded gun at inflated prices. Lots of modded out 1301 sitting at $2500+ with zero buyers for months on cgn and gp.

1

u/Why_Am_I_Here_1999 Apr 06 '26

That's fair I may end up tossing all the original parts back on and selling all the magpull furniture and the shotgun separate good point!

7

u/Bull-RunTheJewels Apr 06 '26

Ya that sounds like you are asking too much. And if it’s a Benelli M4 or something else expensive, it will have to be a decent discount for me to want to risk not buying brand new.

0

u/Why_Am_I_Here_1999 Apr 06 '26

I actually did the math and I'm under the 75% one other suggested, but to each their own like I said I've had quite a few messages about it, 50% said they just wanted the parts, 25% were trying to up trade themselves and 25%just didn't have anything I was really too interested in. Which whatever we all try to upgrade as cheaply as possible and I 100% don't have any issues I would always be polite. Part of me feels like there are so many cheaper clones out there that they kind of flood the market but oh well she'll stay in the safe and every once in a while I'll check a few slugs through er or shoot some water bottles with the younger cousins lol

1

u/Bull-RunTheJewels Apr 06 '26

What gun is it and how much are you charging?

1

u/Why_Am_I_Here_1999 Apr 06 '26

It's a 590 tactical with magpull furniture(and the original) with a red dot on it. I have it up for 950 expecting people to haggle. (Local sale would get all the shells) All in New I think it's right around 1300.

2

u/Bull-RunTheJewels Apr 06 '26

Sell everything separately. You will get more buyers and make more money. If you ship I might even buy the red dot

1

u/Why_Am_I_Here_1999 Apr 06 '26

Lol it's just a cheap $100 red dot tbh I do have a nice one up for sale lol the Athlon tsr3

1

u/Why_Am_I_Here_1999 Apr 06 '26

Oh and one of the olight osight ones it's kinda neat but it's in tan

1

u/Bull-RunTheJewels Apr 06 '26

Ya when I can buy my tactical 590R with a pistol grip brand new for $1150-1200 shipped brand new, I’m probably not gonna buy a used one with magpul stock for $950. The magpul stock is only worth around $180. Like I said, the mossberg 590 A1 and add a magpul stock will be about $1000 shipped right now. And it will look 99% the same as yours and it’s brand new.

Hate to say it but you gotta drop that price brother. Good like selling your gun my friend.

Or just keep it. In the world we live in today, you should be buying more guns, not selling them 😁

1

u/Q-Ball7 In the end, it's taxes all the way down Apr 06 '26

a 590 tactical with magpull furniture

590s are overpriced to begin with and packing in the Magpul furniture makes that value proposition even worse.

The reason you have a bunch of people trying to get the furniture separately is because they already have a 590 (or 500) from back before better guns existed. Because right now, your used tactical 590 at $950 is competing against a new Supernova at $900, or a Nova 3 at $800, and those are better guns than your 590 is.

I think you could get what you're asking if you sold everything separately because of this: your 590 will now favorably compete with the Nova on price (so it'll sell to someone who won't buy a plastic spaghetti gun on principle), and the Magpul furniture can go to someone who wants to upgrade their old gun (for the same reasons you did).

5

u/Cloudayo Apr 06 '26

As others have said pretty much everything can move on CGN/Gunpost if it’s not selling you’re asking too much. If you don’t want the hassle consignment is great. I’m local to Vancouver and have sold several guns at Reliable Gun on consignment.

6

u/kaydenb3 Apr 06 '26 edited Apr 06 '26

As far as online, 90% of the used market is on Gunpost, with another 10% being the CGN posts that aren’t cross posted to Gunpost.

4

u/jollygreengiant1655 Apr 06 '26

As others have said, you should have no problem selling it on GP if the price is right and you can ship it.

One other option, is to see about sending it to an auction house for them to include in one of their sales.

5

u/TheRip91 Apr 06 '26

What are we selling? Lol

1

u/Why_Am_I_Here_1999 Apr 06 '26

590 magpull

2

u/Bull-RunTheJewels Apr 06 '26

Then it isn’t as cool as you think it is or it is priced too high. I got a Mossberg 590R. Sick gun. They are relatively affordable if you buy them on sale. So you also gotta mark your price lower than what that gun could be bought at a 15-20% discount from a retailer. Good Easter deals right now.

1

u/TheRip91 Apr 06 '26

Easter deals, you say?

Curious about buying a Benelli supernova: new comes with a couple chokes for $950 at cabelas. Used I can see a couple of just the shotgun for $700-800. At that price point is it just worth it to buy new and get the chokes?

2

u/eldaniay Apr 06 '26

Used don't come with chokes?

1

u/Irishprisoner7 Apr 06 '26

Not per the listings info I see?

2

u/f1vepointoh Apr 06 '26

What i typically do is put a reasonable fair price expecting somebody to offer 100 bucks less and i ussually get what i expect to get. If i cant sell it i message every fucking guy on gunpost to try trading. If it takes 200 guys and only one guy will trade.... well better get to work. This is why i dont impulse buy guns anymore. If i dont have a direct use for it it then im not buying it. Tacticool guns only appeal to novice gun owners 90 % of the time. Hunting guns you will always be able to sell cause most of us who have PAL's hunt. Time of the year also makes a big difference i will only sell deer rifles in august and september trying to find the guy who wants a newer rifle before the rifle opener. Duck shotguns sell well year round but any fall months typcially easiest to sell. Varmint calibers sell year round aswell. Target sports rifles can sell well depending on the area but can be hard if you are rural and not close to gun ranges.

1

u/One-Coffee-2621 Apr 06 '26

If all else fails, check out Switzer's Auction. You or a store won't have to sit on it and you'd at least get something for it.

Who knows you might get lucky like me, had a rifle sit on consignment at the LGs for a year with no bites. On auction I got a hair over what I was asking on consignment

1

u/Bull-RunTheJewels Apr 06 '26

If you buy a 590a1 and put the magpul stock on it, that comes to around $1000. So unless you have it listed for $700 you might have a hard time selling it. Maybe best to put factory parts on it and sell everything separately

1

u/Camson19 Apr 06 '26

What are you selling and how much and where? I’m not looking fo anything but I could be

1

u/Dry_Diet9916 Apr 07 '26

Any prediction on SKS prices, will they be worth 2 grand soon?

0

u/stonecolddeezausted Apr 06 '26

I generally list stuff at 85-90% retail value for unfired firearms in new condition. The buyer is saving 10% plus tax and don’t have to worry about their info recorded at the store. May take a couple weeks to sell but I’m not in a rush.
