Milsurps / Prohib Norinco QBZ-95/97 Appreciation Post
Howdy folks!
The Texan is back with yet another gun appreciation post.
Today, we got the Type 97, which for a while was actually popular in Canada, and yes in this one, I did include THE Canadian Flat Top version that was available. I don’t know if you can get them anymore, but these things are actually pretty cool in my opinion.
I know some people will say:
“It’s Chineseum and it sucks!”
I know, still over here in the US I wish we could buy them, but unfortunately we cannot due to how Norinco was banned from importing rifles into the United States, and now we can only get Norinco Shotguns in here. In particular the Hawk Industries Hawk 97/982, which is better known as the H&R 1871 Pardner Pump and Blue Line Solutions BL-18
Anyways if y’all have experience with the Type 97, let me know about it!
Enjoy!

Gun is good was forced to buy all 4 iterations. If you're a lefty, as they say in Chinese go adapt. Never jammed on me once, sent cases flying to the shadow realm. 1.5 moa rifle.

Accurate description. Last time I shot (still need to upload the video) it went 120 rounds in 5 minutes with no issues… except the barrel melted the case when I put it down 😂

They were really affordable as well, you can get one new for about 1200, and maybe even 1000 dollars during a sale.
Due to the bullpup design, my friend barely felt anything when he shot it.
Only downside is that you need to keep tracing where the shell is landing, lol. Also, hard to reload them as it get mangled during extraction.

999 at gotenda or g4c back in the day. But you're 100% correct on everything else.

Lol, were you refering to the Gen 1s? I didn't get the chance to get them until 2020 or early 2021, and by then, there only gen 3 were available unless get them used for gen 1.
I know there are some gen 2 with keymod, but I chose the Mlok version instead.

No all iterations I bought for 999, was told I did get a discount on the gen 2 and 3 though. Regardless current ban is pointless.

Oh man, lucky you then. I got one for 1200, and then another one for 1k during a sale. Feels like distance memory now, lol.
Let's hope that the OIC can be scrapped down the road. Such waste of money and time.

2012 was the only Hollywood movie in history to show PLA soldiers holding type 97 rifles

I remember when there were ergonomic upgrades for the super awkward safety and accessory mount handguard options some enthusiasts cooked up.
I ended up getting a nice AR-15 off the rack for the same amount of money as the base rifle at the time, but would have loved a carry handle Type 95/97.
edit: t97.ca is still online!

The type 97 gen 3 (the genuine gen 3) was easily one of the best semi auto civilian rifles I shot.
Sad times

I must admit, though I did think the Type 97 was neat, one reason I never would have ended up buying one was I picked one up in a shop and it just felt a little too small ergonomically for it to ever be comfortable for me.
Was cool that we had them though, kind of unfortunate that as with some other Chinese firearms they come and go with import batches with years in between sometimes.

Some had triggers that felt almost 2-stage, some were complete mush. My OG gen 1 felt great and my friends gen 3 was mushy like pudding. I miss them 😢

Well it was on there when the big update came out. I know that. For sure. I checked again at the beginning of the registration period for the buyback. Wasn’t on there in January. I had 2 separate friends check since I thought I was going crazy. Both confirmed not on there
It’s 100% in there right now
I can’t keep up anymore, the gov is shockingly bad at this stuff

I'm so glad I picked one up for $900 all-in back in 2022 👌
Mine is accurate as hell and just never stops. Eats everything and never complains 👏
