I know there's been a lot of hate and negativity for this rifle, and a lot of misunderstandings about it as well. After shooting about 300 rounds through it I'd like to throw my experience in the ring and talk about the Akdas Alcor.

First off I'd like to say that I do like and enjoy this rifle. when I compare it to my other high dollar/high powered semi autos (BAR Mark 3, SKS, Dad's old Remington semi, and less relevant the Homesteader) it actually sits about in the middle of the pack for performance and reliability. my homesteader hasn't had a single issue when shooting. even when things got a little loose, it still shot and didn't give a fuck. however, the Alcor (mine at least) is actually quite a bit more reliable than my BAR and my dad's older Remington is crap compared to it regarding feeding and firing reliably.

accuracy wise, I'm getting about an moa at 100 yards. a bit less. I don't have my paper handy with the math, pretty sure my son fleeced it from my pockets looking for sweets but for coyote hunting which is my intention with it, it'll do just fine.

now the issues I have had with it are not huge, the rail has come loose once, but that's just a retorque thing, not really a problem. the end nut for the foregrip does like to come loose after I put the crusader hand guard on but I have a solution for that now as well so no worries there.

I HAVE had feeding issues with it though, although rare in the context of hunting. They stem exclusively with what magazine is in it and if there is force against the magazine itself. with duramags it has had no feeding issues at all, and the bolt hold open has worked everytime. with gen 2 pmags it feeds perfect, although the last round hold open doesn't catch sometimes. with gen 3 pmags I have had 2 in 200 rounds of firing fail to feed, specifically when the gun is resting on the magazine at an angle. so if you use a bipod or a tree branch/shooting stick, you'll probably have no issues. I haven't even bothered with the stock magazine for no particular reason other than aesthetics.

Wear wise I haven't noticed anything worrisome or seemingly out of the ordinary. the bolt rotates and locks no problem and moves smoothly.

If I could change anything on it, I wish the price was closer to 1000, in a perfect world 800 is probably worth it imo. But, I wanted a .223 semi and I got one. Also nothing to do with Akdas but Crusader needs to use lighter metal cause the handguard is a freakin boat anchor, but the stock and grip angle are good to me.

For all those who think this is a converted shotgun, it's not. It's a clone of the Benelli R1 made to take Stanag/Pmags, which the R1 is a center fire rifle to begin with.

Lastly, do I even begin to think this is anything like an Armalite or to the same quality/performance? Not at all, but again, I wanted a semi .223 with a pistol grip, and this seems to be the easiest and least expensive way to do it as far as I am aware.

Yeah it is what it is. So far so good, I don't have any illusions that I'll be able to get 10,000 rounds out of it, but it's not going to see that kind of heavy use, and I wouldn't rely on it to defend my life. I have much better rifles and shotguns for that. But for a fun coyote hunt in a field along a treeline, I think it'll be perfect

Which better rifles and shotguns would you rely on to defend your life?

For shotguns, any of the ones I own really I quite like shotguns and have spent most of my money there. 870 police magnum, 590, 1301 mod 2, BPS (a little long) etc

For rifles I'd rather use my homesteader or SKS probably. Just for reference, I would do this as a last resort after calling police etc and only if threatened with equal force (for the feds out there)

No disclaimer necessary for me. Why would you put the SKS above the alcor for defence?

I've put more time in with it. And most defence is close range so it having no optic and being bone stock is probably better than a scope even if it's lowest power is 3. Plus I don't need to pay attention to what magazine I put in it, I just slam a stripper in the bitch and rip it.

I guess that last part would be mitigated if it was staged with a duramag, but that would be improper storage of a firearm and since Im a dad with two kids and a soon to be CAF member I don't like taking chances

Someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but I think you can have a loaded magazine unloaded from a non-restricted firearm but next to it in legal secure storage, like a gun safe. If a predator of some kind, like a bear or ... something... else, you could have your stripper clip next to your SKS and your loaded Cross Mag next to your Alcor, and have both ready for you and your spouse ready to load and  deploy. Or a drum magazine loaded for use with a manual action shotgun... many options :-p

Y'know you can tell half my brain was stolen by sleepless nights with my toddler and baby girl. But I think you're right. They can't be loaded in the gun but I think next to them is fine. Good point. I'd have to check the law again though it's been a while since I've taken the course

I'm not in the position to get a firearm right now, but if I ever do, I had researched the possibility. I know it is impractical and may fail given it is Turkish, but my predator defense for my small space would be a bar magazine full of birdshot on a short and handy Ege Lever Action shotgun :-p

That's fair I totally understand that. If you need a short shotgun. The Mossberg 990 might be worth a look!

The Mossberg 590M pump action mag fed shotgun would fit the bill, yes, 10 rounds of birdshot to limit overpentration (impossible to eliminate, but every but helps) in the safe, slap it in in, rack it, good to go. Semi would be nice, but then it would have to have the long barrel, and be limited to 5 rounds. The space cowboy of the Ege Lever12 still appeals to me though :-p

Check out the 990 aftershock, it's a neat gun either way. The shortest semi before being restricted as far as I'm aware. It's pretty slick. But any Mossberg is good too. I do love lever actions too, I really want an 1887 t series
