Gun and gear reviews My Honest Opinion

The pictures are oldest to newest, with the last one being taken today.

I know there's been a lot of hate and negativity for this rifle, and a lot of misunderstandings about it as well. After shooting about 300 rounds through it I'd like to throw my experience in the ring and talk about the Akdas Alcor.

First off I'd like to say that I do like and enjoy this rifle. when I compare it to my other high dollar/high powered semi autos (BAR Mark 3, SKS, Dad's old Remington semi, and less relevant the Homesteader) it actually sits about in the middle of the pack for performance and reliability. my homesteader hasn't had a single issue when shooting. even when things got a little loose, it still shot and didn't give a fuck. however, the Alcor (mine at least) is actually quite a bit more reliable than my BAR and my dad's older Remington is crap compared to it regarding feeding and firing reliably.

accuracy wise, I'm getting about an moa at 100 yards. a bit less. I don't have my paper handy with the math, pretty sure my son fleeced it from my pockets looking for sweets but for coyote hunting which is my intention with it, it'll do just fine.

now the issues I have had with it are not huge, the rail has come loose once, but that's just a retorque thing, not really a problem. the end nut for the foregrip does like to come loose after I put the crusader hand guard on but I have a solution for that now as well so no worries there.

I HAVE had feeding issues with it though, although rare in the context of hunting. They stem exclusively with what magazine is in it and if there is force against the magazine itself. with duramags it has had no feeding issues at all, and the bolt hold open has worked everytime. with gen 2 pmags it feeds perfect, although the last round hold open doesn't catch sometimes. with gen 3 pmags I have had 2 in 200 rounds of firing fail to feed, specifically when the gun is resting on the magazine at an angle. so if you use a bipod or a tree branch/shooting stick, you'll probably have no issues. I haven't even bothered with the stock magazine for no particular reason other than aesthetics.

Wear wise I haven't noticed anything worrisome or seemingly out of the ordinary. the bolt rotates and locks no problem and moves smoothly.

If I could change anything on it, I wish the price was closer to 1000, in a perfect world 800 is probably worth it imo. But, I wanted a .223 semi and I got one. Also nothing to do with Akdas but Crusader needs to use lighter metal cause the handguard is a freakin boat anchor, but the stock and grip angle are good to me.

For all those who think this is a converted shotgun, it's not. It's a clone of the Benelli R1 made to take Stanag/Pmags, which the R1 is a center fire rifle to begin with.

Lastly, do I even begin to think this is anything like an Armalite or to the same quality/performance? Not at all, but again, I wanted a semi .223 with a pistol grip, and this seems to be the easiest and least expensive way to do it as far as I am aware.

Ask whatever questions just follow the golden rule please!

Thanks for the information! I appreciate you taking the time to write and share your experience with the alcor. People on here are missing out on some good and fun firearms due to the usual Turkish rhetoric.

I see you tried the crusader forend, what about the stock? What did you think of the the weight/ergonomics? And lastly, can you reach the mag release with your index on that pistol grip?

3

u/ASpacebornVagabond Mar 30 '26

The stock is good actually, I traded out the A2 grip for a magpul MOE grip I already had handy and it's not bad at all. To give you a little more context, I'm 6'5" so the length of pull even fully extended is quite short, but that's what I expect from a carbine stock. I can reach the mag release without breaking grip pretty easily, but I do have long fingers and big hands.

Probably my biggest gripe with it is the weight of the fore end from crusader, it's very front heavy and I'm not a huge fan, but I just train around it.

I get a lot of people are upset about losing their nice combat rifles and Armalite etc. I wish I could get literally any of them but this is the best I can get at the moment. And for hunting purposes it'll be quite fine I think.

Anyone trying to compare this to an actual rifle designed for combat is idiotic.

I love that you did this review. Thank you.

I hate that in 2026 a rifle slightly better than the Remington jam-master is appealing to me.

2

u/ASpacebornVagabond Mar 30 '26

Yeah it is what it is. So far so good, I don't have any illusions that I'll be able to get 10,000 rounds out of it, but it's not going to see that kind of heavy use, and I wouldn't rely on it to defend my life. I have much better rifles and shotguns for that. But for a fun coyote hunt in a field along a treeline, I think it'll be perfect

2

u/Sco0basTeVen Mar 30 '26

Which better rifles and shotguns would you rely on to defend your life?

6

u/ASpacebornVagabond Mar 30 '26

For shotguns, any of the ones I own really I quite like shotguns and have spent most of my money there. 870 police magnum, 590, 1301 mod 2, BPS (a little long) etc

For rifles I'd rather use my homesteader or SKS probably. Just for reference, I would do this as a last resort after calling police etc and only if threatened with equal force (for the feds out there)

3

u/Sco0basTeVen Mar 30 '26

No disclaimer necessary for me. Why would you put the SKS above the alcor for defence?

3

u/ASpacebornVagabond Mar 30 '26

I've put more time in with it. And most defence is close range so it having no optic and being bone stock is probably better than a scope even if it's lowest power is 3. Plus I don't need to pay attention to what magazine I put in it, I just slam a stripper in the bitch and rip it.

I guess that last part would be mitigated if it was staged with a duramag, but that would be improper storage of a firearm and since Im a dad with two kids and a soon to be CAF member I don't like taking chances

4

u/Ustauk Mar 31 '26

Someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but I think you can have a loaded magazine unloaded from a non-restricted firearm but next to it in legal secure storage, like a gun safe. If a predator of some kind, like a bear or ... something... else, you could have your stripper clip next to your SKS and your loaded Cross Mag next to your Alcor, and have both ready for you and your spouse ready to load and  deploy. Or a drum magazine loaded for use with a manual action shotgun... many options :-p

2

u/ASpacebornVagabond Mar 31 '26

Y'know you can tell half my brain was stolen by sleepless nights with my toddler and baby girl. But I think you're right. They can't be loaded in the gun but I think next to them is fine. Good point. I'd have to check the law again though it's been a while since I've taken the course

1

u/Ustauk Mar 31 '26

I'm not in the position to get a firearm right now, but if I ever do, I had researched the possibility. I know it is impractical and may fail given it is Turkish, but my predator defense for my small space would be a bar magazine full of birdshot on a short and handy Ege Lever Action shotgun :-p

1

u/ASpacebornVagabond Mar 31 '26

That's fair I totally understand that. If you need a short shotgun. The Mossberg 990 might be worth a look!

That and the sks is durable and reliable. Reliable being paramount when it comes to the defense of your life.

2

u/ASpacebornVagabond Mar 31 '26

It is definitely designed for higher round counts, and will likely work longer regardless of how many range trips it gets.

The thing is like 3 or 4 moving parts or something like that it's kinda wild

Another good point!

Good point

5

u/ASpacebornVagabond Mar 30 '26

Addition: I'm using this to hunt coyotes, not for playing soldier or brutality, I do that with other stuff. Also, this is after only owning it for 3 months and three range trips last weekend's being the most shooting of 200 rounds to test zero and make sure everything is settled for good.

Thanks for reading!

There is literally hundreds of videos of dudes and gals using them. Usually I see people use red dots. I have these sighted in for 25yards. You're just being a dickhead to be dickhead now. Kick rocks bud.

Just curious when you said about the Homesteader "things got a bit loose", is your Glock mag well adapter working itself loose as well? My pins start walking out pretty damn fast, and I had to reinsert them after 1-2 mags as they would slip enough allowing the adapter to move a bit, which resulted in the 1 single jam I've ever had in it.

Props to Henry for sending me new pins from the USA free of charge though. They also replaced my front sight for free when it fell off (using red dot so didn't notice). Unfortunately the new pins didn't fix it, but what did, was taking a very thin packing tape and wrapping the bolt that was walking out. It took a bit of force to get it in with the thin wrapping of tape, but since then it hasn't budged at all, and can still be easily removed if needed.

Just thought I'd throw it out since when you said things got a bit loose, I figured you might've been having the same issue as me with the Homesteader. Fantastic little rifle though, runs perfectly, just that issue with 1 pin walking.

2

u/ASpacebornVagabond Mar 31 '26

That's not the issue I was having. Although the pin you speak of doesn't inspire me to believe it won't happen at some point to me as well on mine. For me it's the metal mount price for the foregrip and weight guide rod. But it's a trooper and even when that happened, still just chewed through mags before I noticed it.

They really are awesome rifles though. I hope more people get into them!

2

u/Ustauk Mar 30 '26

Thanks for the review! You said the stock was ok, just to confirm, it is rigid enough, and not too flexible? Also, you may want to look at one of the new handguards from Kodiak. There is a polymer one with Mlok at the end, and another one with Mlok from the end to end , but I'm not sure if it is polymer or aluminum.

2

u/ASpacebornVagabond Mar 30 '26

I did see those new handguards and I think I might have to make the switch. Also sorry, yes the stock is actually very solid where it attaches to the rifle, holding it with one hand even with the heavy front end doesn't feel sketchy, feels very solid.

This is probably less of a review and more just what I've noticed and liked and disliked. I hope it helped!

2

u/Ustauk Mar 31 '26

Thanks, the Ugg boot type stocks from B&T used on the Jakl and earlier F5 stocks on the Jakl and CA Templar were known to not be rigid enough. It's nice to know CA got it right. They need to make a 1913 version for Hush Holsters 1913 stocked SKSes, 22 LR 1913 stock chassis,  and for 1913 rifles in the States like the Jakl or SBRed Kunas.

1

u/ASpacebornVagabond Mar 31 '26

Yeah it'd be nice, especially the sks'. Honestly the only thing that I didn't have an issue with and needed some adjustment was the stock. Everything else took a bit of fucking around to get it to sit tight and feel solid. I wish it wasn't so, and we could have better stuff out of the box but the rifle isn't bad once you get it the way you like it.

2

u/xthemoonx Mar 31 '26

What's that revolver looking thing? Is it NR?

2

u/ASpacebornVagabond Mar 31 '26

Yeah that's a pretty wild looking thing eh? It's a Sulun Arms SR-410. It's a short .410 shotgun and it's NR. My fiancé thought it was cute and I think it's pretty wacky but it's was a fun buy, it had some hiccups like a lot of Turkish stuff but it shoots great now, it's pretty accurate with slugs too which was a massive surprise.

I'd try to get the one that can shoot 44 ACP with moonclips, I wish I waited for that one honestly. Fun gun though!

2

u/Emergency-Service696 Mar 31 '26

Where did ya get that Rhodesian brushstroke sling my guy?

2

u/ASpacebornVagabond Mar 31 '26

That's a wellsmadeco sling. They have a website and they're not cheap but they're the best slings I've ever used hands down. I literally have two more with different prints on the way

1

u/Murray3-Dvideos Mar 31 '26

Thought forsure these and some other stragglers like the Homesteader would be banned before the buyback concluded. Now its looking like they'll maybe enjoy the same delicate immunity guns like the Valmet, SKS and Garand currently have.

I had a MR1 for a handful of years (bought it used for 1200, I'd never pay MSRP for one). It was actually a very comfortable 223 to shoot accurately. Very decent for coyotes hunting. I suspect these would feel the same, but maybe not quite as well made. Im tempted more now.

Ah I see you forgot the golden rule. This isn't a combat rifle, or even a gun to compare to the X95. Your pants on head dumb for even trying to compare them.

Not to mention US prices for a tavor are around 1600-2000 usd which is 2200-2700 cad. These are 1500 Canadian if you look and don't buy the first listing you see. Get your head out of your ass, you're the one coping trying to compare the two.

Go take a shower chum

1

u/ONTZ28 Mar 30 '26

You missed his point entirely.

He was stating that 250 rounds was just one range day with his X95. 300 rounds is hardly enough to give an actual review.

Also, if you're going to call someone "pants on head dumb" you should make sure you don't start the insult with a spelling error.

-1

u/ASpacebornVagabond Mar 30 '26

You missed my point entirely. For most people using this to hunt (what it's designed for), it's a realistic look at it. I didn't have the chance to own stuff like that because I came into having a PAL late. But it's probably safe to assume the tavor was restricted like alot of rifles like that. Which means you wouldn't even be able to take it into the the woods much less hunt with it. It's very obvious you didn't read my post.

God forbid I make a spelling mistake, sorry teach. You're pants on your head dumb. Is that better?

2

u/Sco0basTeVen Mar 30 '26

Tavor was non restricted up until the ban.

-3

u/ASpacebornVagabond Mar 30 '26

Then I was wrong, still, this is designed for hunting and really is meant for that. Not really high round counts. Still apples and oranges imo since they're designed for different use cases.

2

u/Sco0basTeVen Mar 30 '26

Hey man I got no problem with your review. 300 rounds a range trip through one gun is not affordable. That’s like $200 in ammo for one gun.

1

u/ASpacebornVagabond Mar 31 '26

That's another really good point. I do like to buy bulk. But I can't buy like I could have before I had kids, and I've only had my PAL for a year, and this year I have two kids instead of just one so even if I wanted to say fuck my kids and their futures and just buy ammo like a madlad, staying long enough at the range long enough to do that and do it a few times a month, while also shooting the other guns I usually shoot more regularly the amount I shoot them would put me in the dog house. My fiancé likes firearms but having two under two really puts a hamper on time if you actually care about their development and want to be there for them 😂

Sorry if I came off a bit rude, not my intention.

1

u/ONTZ28 Mar 31 '26

You missed it again, so I'll break it down Barney style for you. He stated that an average range day with his X95 was 250 rounds. The X95 was just an example, not a comparison. The point was 300 rounds for a semi auto 223, which is designed to be a range toy is hardly any. Even with that small sample size you still experienced failures to feed, issues with the bolt hold open and others, yet you're singing its praises. At its price point, you should be having zero issues. Hell, I've put more rounds than that through a neglected 742 and had fewer issues.

Furthermore, it was never designed to be a hunting rifle. It's a Turkish knock-off MR1 dressed up to look like a knock-off R1 for the Canadian market as a ploy to help it not get banned. The fact that you have it all dressed up supports that. With what you spent, you could have bought an actual R1, but you can't larp as JTF2 with an R1 lol

Frankly, I don't really give a damn if you love your overpriced Turkish cope gun. Your poor attitude, hostility and even worse reading comprehension are what made me respond. But these guns are marketed towards the stupid. Keep supporting predatory companies profiting off people panic buying buddy!

1

u/ASpacebornVagabond Mar 31 '26

I mean, Holy shit you say I'm hostile but look at you cowboy. I'm not even going to bother responding beyond this. I bought it cause I wanted a semi .223 with a pistol grip. mr1 is prohib, r1 doesn't come in .223 or with a pistol grip. Also they are functionally the same, with the same Argo system, etc. You don't have reading comprehension either apparently and you're a hypocrite and an enigma. Goodness.

Go cool off and touch grass chum. You're assuming a lot, and not taking my experience, and not review for what it is. I don't know how I'm singing its praises. I just said I liked it. Said the things I like, said the things I dislike. I didn't say it was perfect, or better than a tavor or Armalite, or H&K, or even a PSA rifle. I don't want to be jtf2, I'm in selection to be an ammo tech and I'm happy with that. I'm using this to hunt coyotes, the scope for those called in across the field, and irons in case they sneak up behind and get real close (which does happen). This is apples and oranges dude, and not everyone can shoot 250 rounds multiple times a month or have the time to with different life situations. I prefer messing around with shotguns if forced to choose, and target flats are a lot cheaper than .223, most of the time.

I don't know how its panic buying, I just buy what I like. When I see it, regardless of the list or what might end up on it. 🤷‍♂️
