Milsurps / Prohib SKS price
Just got my first gun and it was a Chinese SKS paid 850. Did I get ripped off?

That’s kind of the going rate at retailers now and they aren’t getting any cheaper, so, it is what it is.

I pay a mortgage on a house worth $650 000 and was probably worth $300 000 10 years ago 😅
Point being, these things are skyrocketing in price

It’s fair price for today’s market. You’ll hear people say it’s overpriced because they bought one years ago for 400.

Got a Chinese SKS for 185 shipped. I later traded it for 1000 round of federal .223 which I sold for 1400 during COVID

I got mine be for $125 back 15ish years ago. It’s missing the receiver currently, haven’t found one to buy yet.

I've seen a few receivers for sale lately. Doctor Deals (heard they're kinda sketchy but do deliver), and Frontier Firearms (better option) both had barreled actions for around $200 or $300 a little while ago. Probably still have them. If you have all the other parts, that would be the cheapest way to reassemble it

Our liberal gov't has screwed the firearms market and caused FOMO around certain models, so these are just the new prices, I would not call them fair. It was literally $449.99 + tax at some retailers last summer.

It was only a little over a year ago that you could get one for $450 on sale so to be fair ya, they are quite severely overpriced

Bass Pro had them go on sale, wooden stocked type 56, for $530 back in December or January. Sold out real fast though. I almost bought a second one for that steal of a price. Bought my first one last year for $500.

When I started dating my fiancée 7 years ago, she offered to buy me an SKS for my birthday. It was at the time of the Cabelas/Bass Pro Shops merger. It was on sale for $99…. I told her that I’d find a better deal at the upcoming gunshow and that I wouldn’t pay $99 for an SKS.
Spoiler alert: I did not find a better deal. I would absolutely pay $99 for an SKS now. What a dunce.

If I could go back in time Id snap up the $1000 crates of SKS that I used to pass up on. Hell, I'd rent a warehouse and sit on them.

They're starting to go over 1k now. You can still find some non-Chinese ones for anywhere between 900 and 1.1k

Maybe could have got one for a few dollars cheaper, but if it's quality, $850 is around the going rate these days.

$850 is standard these days for unissued French ticklers.
While more expensive than before, it’s still a ultra reliable centerfire semi auto. You won’t find anything better (CF semi auto) for the same price, or even more expensive that we can own in Canada.
I’d take an unissued SKS over some Turkish crap that’s double the price. I wouldn’t even consider the Canadian made crusader rifles.
TLDR: It’s not overpriced, it was just extremely affordable in the past. It’s a great rifle that will only go higher in price when things run dry.

Nowdays old surplus sks are all getting more costly by every day.
Ati sks can be cheaper where they are essentially either old gun with new stock, a faulty old gun, Or aftermarket parts jammed up together in a new stock, Therefore they can be slightly more cheaper, and most of the time the dont run out of stock unlike the woodstock surplus sks, They have less value but surplus sks with woodstock might run out in the next decade unless they open up some long forgotten bunkers and fund a ton of those stockpiles again.

I wish I'd bought an svt40 for 850 when I grabbed my first sks for 210 bucks. It's only going to go up more

I would say you could have done a bit better, but also I wouldnt feel too bad over it as it does seem to be the going rate currently. Was it a FT, Blade, or just normal spiker?

Pretty sure that if the SKS is never going on the list, that the AD 500 will stay off of it also. Love my AD500 :)

I guess that’s the going rate for them.
When I first got my license in 2012, local gun shops would have drums full of sks
$250-350 was the price at the time. Insane how much they’ve shot up

Yup. The SKS is a terrible gun by any measurable metric, and an awful choice as a first gun. It's a symbol gun - nearly useless for any practical purpose, but at least you 'showed them.' Somehow.
At least when it was cheap, nobody claimed it was anything more than a cheap trash gun. Now, it's somehow a magical piece of epic proportions

Personally, I'd like to see retailers Jack the price of the SKS up to 1500, so when the government bans them, everybody who owns one can claim the government owes them fair market value, even though the vast majority of us bought them at 10% of that 10 years ago lmao

I didn't claim anyone was actually going to get any money back, but there will be more public push back from both sides.
Gun owners will be pissed they aren't getting fair market value, and the public will be pissed because they think the governments will actually pay for them

The last thing the Gov wants is a bunch of far North Indigenious people being peeved about taking their guns. So get used to the SKS.... its here to stay.
