Reminds me of the case in Vancouver with the elderly man who had 174 firearms seized. Mostly WW2 firearms but they weren’t stored safely. He was also of poor physical and mental health.

Large quantities of legally owned firearms are more common than you think. At my height of collecting, I had more than 40 but less than 60, now I have dwindled it down more than 60% to just precision / hunting rifles and shotguns and handguns.

One thing to not fuck around with is safe storage. Puts a bad name on all of us for improper storage.

To be fair, it does sound like he had two firearms out when they entered, my question would be is that unsafe storage if he was home with the guns. Obviously if he was having a mental health crisis there is a legitimate concern here, but there are times that we all have our firearms out of the safe and if the police enter your home they could argue you weren't storing them properly.

Yes, I 100% agree with you on that point. That can def constitute as improper storage. Sometimes when I’m working on mines, I have them out for 6-8 hours before they’re back in the safe. If the RCMP were to come to my home during one of those times of maintenance, I’d have to prove myself and hopefully avoid the chaos.

I assume any half decent lawyer would argue that during routine maintenance, the firearms are "in use". You have to be able to take your firearms out of storage to use them and maintain them, and stroke them gently, lubricate and oil them properly, and just have some alone time and whisper sweet nothings
