Obviously this is a cope gun but the idea of a spring assisted lever action seems weird to me

Your anger seems misplaced. Shouldn't you be angry at the RCMP, who quietly banned the R9 on a Sunday, without telling anyone? Any Canadian buying a firearm, any firearm, should have an idea that it could literally be banned tomorrow, at the stroke of a pen.

Sterling didn’t submit the proper paperwork to the RCMP before selling it.

The RCMP classified the R9 as a variant of a 180B, and since one is a direct blowback gun, and the other is a DI gas gun, clearly the RCMP Firearms lab are incompetent, or lying boobs. It has nothing to do with "proper paperwork", which was in fact submitted, and 100% do to with the RCMP doing what their Liberal masters tell them to.

Regardless of the fact the people at the RCMP are idiots bottom line is that Sterling did not obtain a FRT number before selling it to the public. Only after it was banned did they submit paperwork for it. Buddy even said in an interview that he would have to explain things in crayon to the RCMP guaranteeing that they wouldn’t change their decision on it.

Wrong. The schematics for that firearm were presented to the RCMP well before it was banned.

They submitted a Sample and schematics in June and all most immediately started selling them before obtaining approval. I’d hardly call one month “well before” After reviewing it the RCMP classified it as prohibited even if there findings were mistaken. JR also said in an interview that they should have provided additional paperwork and probably should have marketed it as being similar to the 180b. Again bottom line it was shady at best to sell them before getting the FRT number and approval. And stupid to snub their nose at the RCMP and start selling them without their approval and FRT number. The crayon comment put a nail in the coffin. Doing this is basically a fuck you to everyone who bought the rifle and the powers that be.
