News / Politics / Activism New Sterling Arms lever action 9mm rifle
https://youtu.be/IUQF3z4C-PI?si=bZZO5g22NJjJTnF1Obviously this is a cope gun but the idea of a spring assisted lever action seems weird to me

Little disappointing it takes glock mags. If they were proprietary, you could put a drum on it, for all the law cares.

Looks expensive

Yeah exactly what I thought. Cool but I’m not spending 2k on a lever gun

Nope. Dumb. Give us our semi auto's back...give us our AR's back.

u/Eoghanwheeler Mar 21 '26
I don’t think that’s in Sterling Arms’ control

Not making silly guns certainly is.

u/MourningWood1942 Mar 21 '26
The options are silly guns or no guns. At least someone is making something, it’s kind of limited over here.

u/Enough_Challenge7264 Mar 21 '26
I want our AK 47's and FN's back. No rational reason they're gone.

Give us our Canadian back, I’m not racist but look at this country…..every immigrant was so happy to be proudly Canadian. Now they want to live like how their live in their country and liberals support that. Canada is dead.

The fact that the US is even looking at shitty Canadian trash guns shows me a very poor future outlook for them

Sterling Arms makes quality products. The rl9 is a British design i believe. I really wanna see James reeves get ahold of it and give us a comprehensive review.

What is the purpose of this other than to make them money and feed the ban black hole?

I guess this is peak Canadian firearm technology. I'm happy that Stirling has made something that is (for now) allowed in Canadian gun law. But it's so sad that this is the best we are allowed to do.
I"m so depressed to be a Canadian. No wonder Alberta wants to separate. I'm expected to keep my elbows up while I'm flushed down the toilet. I"d go make a drink to drown my sorrows but wait, bourbon is banned in Canada also cause orange man bad...

Fuck sterling they sold everyone a gun before getting a FRT number for it then ran away when it got prohibited. Pretty shifty business practice if you ask me. Bragging how they built it specifically for the Canadian market but don’t even check if it’s legal first. Don’t get me wrong this is all a bunch of bull shit but what sterling did with the r9 was just shameful at best.

Your anger seems misplaced. Shouldn't you be angry at the RCMP, who quietly banned the R9 on a Sunday, without telling anyone? Any Canadian buying a firearm, any firearm, should have an idea that it could literally be banned tomorrow, at the stroke of a pen.

u/IronSack46 Mar 21 '26
Sterling didn’t submit the proper paperwork to the RCMP before selling it.
2
u/Scott-YYC Mar 21 '26
The RCMP classified the R9 as a variant of a 180B, and since one is a direct blowback gun, and the other is a DI gas gun, clearly the RCMP Firearms lab are incompetent, or lying boobs. It has nothing to do with "proper paperwork", which was in fact submitted, and 100% do to with the RCMP doing what their Liberal masters tell them to.

Maybe but Sterling and JR are still bunch of pricks for about 25 other reasons so who cares little guy.
1
u/IronSack46 Mar 25 '26
Regardless of the fact the people at the RCMP are idiots bottom line is that Sterling did not obtain a FRT number before selling it to the public. Only after it was banned did they submit paperwork for it. Buddy even said in an interview that he would have to explain things in crayon to the RCMP guaranteeing that they wouldn’t change their decision on it.

u/Scott-YYC Mar 26 '26
Wrong. The schematics for that firearm were presented to the RCMP well before it was banned.
1
u/IronSack46 Mar 26 '26
They submitted a Sample and schematics in June and all most immediately started selling them before obtaining approval. I’d hardly call one month “well before” After reviewing it the RCMP classified it as prohibited even if there findings were mistaken. JR also said in an interview that they should have provided additional paperwork and probably should have marketed it as being similar to the 180b. Again bottom line it was shady at best to sell them before getting the FRT number and approval. And stupid to snub their nose at the RCMP and start selling them without their approval and FRT number. The crayon comment put a nail in the coffin. Doing this is basically a fuck you to everyone who bought the rifle and the powers that be.

I just worry this is going to be classed as an R9 variant, sort of like how the lever ARs are still classed as prohibs up here. Hope I'm wrong.
It does actually look pretty cool. I already have a Homesteader and a ton of 9mm. It would be nice to be able to shoot a 9mm lever at 0.30/rd

It looks kinda goofy, like those off-brands that try roo hard to look aggressive.
I'd consider paying up to $600, as long as it came with a couple magazines.

u/BigCyanDinosaur Mar 21 '26
You must be joking if you think anything new not from Turkey would be 600$, also pretty insulting to Canadian manufacturers trying to make something new for this extremely controlled market, while also paying their employees fairly.

Fucking glock mags. Natalie is so wet right now, edging on dropping the ban hammer 6 months after it goes up for sale. I just want a Winchester/Marlin/Henry action in 9mm, not this tacticool ban-bait.
