You know, the LPC could do the funniest thing...

1)After March 31st, declare the buyback a resounding success and jerk themselves off over how many 'assault rifles' they collected. Suspend collection

2) "We are now turning our attention to modernizing firearm regulation for licensed, trained and trusted owners. Our approach will be based on a firearm's fitness for purpose and not just on it's name."

3) Crib the CPC's simplified system, call it something else

4) Pass it with unanimous support from the CPC and most of his own party

This sounds good on paper but in practice letting the liberals write firearms classification would not be good for us. These are the same people who call the gsg16 a weapon of war

Yeah, public safety announced at the end of last year that they would be starting a comprehensive review of firearms regulations with the goal of simplifying things. When that will be done and if anything results from it, who knows. It’s true that simplification is badly needed but if this government does it, it would almost certainly involve a complete ban on semi-auto centerfire rifles. I don’t think any kind of ban on semi-auto shotguns or rimfire is viable, maybe new capacity restrictions.

When the end goal is to get rid of all civilian ownership and they base things on vibes (and Canadians are super weak willed), don't assume ANYTHING is safe.

They'll bring in those 'experts' who are shrouded in mystery and we won't be left with much. We've had this conversation before, except last time it was "well at least we have handguns and some semis".

The goal post will keep moving until a new government comes into power.

Considering it took them several months just to come out and say "we're temporarily dropping the ev mandate", I'm betting it'll take them about 30 years to come up with a simplified system for classification and regs. It's pretty low on my list of worries. 

Considering it took them 6 years to roll out a horribly botched, floundering "buyback", I'm not too worried about them ever getting around to rewriting the regs.

Too dumb, too inefficient. They like to say shit to look like they're doing stuff, when there's very little actually being done. That'll be the hallmark of this government when we look back on it in a decade. Carney will be known as the man who got nothing done.
