You know, the LPC could do the funniest thing...

1)After March 31st, declare the buyback a resounding success and jerk themselves off over how many 'assault rifles' they collected. Suspend collection

2) "We are now turning our attention to modernizing firearm regulation for licensed, trained and trusted owners. Our approach will be based on a firearm's fitness for purpose and not just on it's name."

3) Crib the CPC's simplified system, call it something else

4) Pass it with unanimous support from the CPC and most of his own party

The Liberals already teased a "simplified classification system".

Unfortunately from the sound of things, it'll be simple but incredibly restrictive.

Gonna huff the hopium here.

I'd heard that, but the fact that they haven't got the ball rolling yet tells me they're thinking twice about it. The LPC's moderate arm has to know what a boondoggle C21 was and that the only reason they got re-elected was dumping their progressives (think how they did Guilbeault) and courting conservatives, both at the ballot box and in the house.

Passing gun laws that are actually reasonable isn't as risky as when Trudeau was at the helm. There's been enough pushback from the other major parties, provincial governments, police forces etc that the government wouldn't look foolish distancing itself from the policies of the previous administration. Plus this presents the opportunity to start building a rural voter base somewhere besides the Maritimes. Whatever seats they lose in Quebec could easily be gained back in the West if they play their cards right. Not saying this is ideal at all, but strategically it's worth them considering.

Although I can see where you are coming from, the fact that a) they refused to drop the gun grab and b) Gary openly naming the SKS as "being looked at next" are not filling me with any bit of confidence.

My guess is they'll double down on the C21-style classification, where they added a new definition of "prohibited firearms" that blanket-banned anything new that's centerfire semiauto with a detachable mag. It'll be a sweeping ban like that one.

I don't think they're going to do anything with the SKS besides sabre-rattling and maybe an import ban. There are literally hundreds of thousands of them, and people across the political spectrum own them and use them (not to mention First Nations members). There isn't a big enough benefit for such an undertaking

Dude do you need us to come and check on you to see if you are alive? You are huffing what could be considered biblical levels of copium in this message and im worried you might not be getting enough oxygen to the brain.

This government has made their intentions clear: authoritarian laws, lower standard of living across the board, and arrest anyone who disagrees.

Maybe so. But they blinked when C21's first reading got lit up for that first list of banned guns (remember the assault style Ruger no 1?). And 15 Liberal MPs sided with the NDP when they tabled C-233 a week ago or so. For a party known for it's voting discipline, that's not an insignificant crack in it's armor. Even if the LPC gets it's majority, it may not be as ironclad as they think.
