Milsurps / Prohib M1 Garand Thoughts

I would really like to get another M1 Garand ( had one in the 90s I had to let go, for $350). I know that no one can predict the future here but what are the odds it ends up on the list?

I recently spent $2800 on a rifle that was worth $100 in the 90s. What it use to sell means nothing, in 10 years you will regret not buying the milsurp you want today.

100% I've always wanted a marlin 1894 blued with wood furniture in 45-70. I skipped buying one new on sale for $500 about 20 years ago, couldn't justify it to myself with child on the way, figured I'd get it at a later time after my financial situation improved. Well my financial situation has improved somewhat but now that same model is pushing $2kcad. With the cost of living in canada as crazy as it is that rifle is further away from being affordable than it was 20 years ago.

If you have the means to get what you want now then I say go for it.

Spending $2K on your rifle doesn't impact any cost of living in Canada. You're not buying a gun that price every other week, are you?

Not sure why people like to use that excuse as if they should even be owning guns if the cost of living has them that own bad.

Well i was going to write a different comment, But then I reread your comment on how "poors shouldn't own guns"

It's not that I can't afford to go buy that gun. It's that I'm financially responsible to know that that $2k would be better spent improving my life in other ways. I already have enough to cover my needs in respect to firearms.

In other words : Disposable income is what you have above and beyond nessisary income

"Fk you" money is money you can effectively throw away

Let's convert this over to a theoretical vehicles to more clearly explain my point.

16 years ago I owned a commuter car, a small 2wd pickup and a 4 wheeler. I wanted to buy a mint condition jeep comanche for $20,000. Now I already had the capabilities to do everything that jeep could do so I couldn't justify spending that kind of money at the time. Now that I'm older I still think about that missed purchase (a little, i don't lose sleep over it). Effectively it was a cosmetic luxury purchase. Or in other words a "fk you money" level of purchase

Now I make a statement telling someone if they have the means to go for a vehicle they like then do it.

Right now I'm better off financially then I was 16 years ago. I note the the jeep gladiator is effectively the same as what I wanted to get all those years ago. I still have a commuter car, a 2wd pickup and a 4 wheeler. So still the jeep can do nothing above what I already can do. But now that jeep is $80,000. (Same as the marlin: 4x what it used to be.)

I have disposable money. But i spend that on quality of life. And yes the cost of living is applicable unless you're one of the lucky few, wages haven't been following inflation for some time now. (Or you were born with a silver spoon up your ass).

Now your argument is that if I can't afford an $80,000 jeep then I shouldn't be allowed to drive. To that i say you can take your entitlement and stick it in the same orifice as you seem to have a spoon.
