Hows the 590a1? Ive been wanting some type of 590a1 for YEARS now but never could financially swing it. I've been torn between black ones like that, wooden stock ones, and everything in between so im not even sure what specific one id want when I do get the money for it.
I have a maverick 88 so I am good on pump shotgun but I find the pump action really loose (?) idk how to describe it but it feels like the pumping part could tear off if wiggle it slightly to far to the left or right. But id LOVE a high tier pump that would last me forever .
So yeah how do you like yours? Any suggestions for me?
Quick edit: nice damn collection too, got all your bases covered bro

I really like mine .
Added a custom longer 3d printed match saver and a side saddle . Also changed the trigger spring for mcarbo.
It balances itself really well. Very accurate with slugs (up to 100 yards. Haven't tried further yet)
It is also very easy to strip down and clean. And if course made really study. I don't find it too heavy as some people sometimes are stating. It's a keeper for sure. I chose the 590a1 magpul version with XS sights. If you go the same route, when you zero your sights, don't forget blue loctite as mine tend to loosen up. Also I purchased the magpul higher cheek risers as the XS sights are higher.
Can't go wrong with it buddy.

Nice, now would you recommend the polymer stock ones or retrograde? I love the look of retrograde but the wood worries me I may need to baby it, as a few of my other wooden stock ones have unfortunate chips/scratches in it because I looked at them wrong when they came out of the safe. Im extremely clumsy and would absolutely scratch up a wooden stock, and would probably drop it in water if i was ever in that scenario. And polymer options dont look bad either.... weight isnt an issue for me just a motivator to lift even more at the gym lmao, so im more into looks and whats best for an "accidentally damaging the looks" prone person.
And id love to Gucci it up too with additional parts.... man I wish I had more money bro

Hahah I totally understand that. I like to Gucci and upgrade my stuff aswell.
In regard of the 590a1... It is a combat 12 gauge. It passed the test for the American army. I also like the look of the retrograde aswell. I hesitated for a while too. If I had to do it all again... I would pick the exact same one I own. (Magpul édition with the Xs ghost ring sights + kit for higher cheek rest) . It is very sturdy. You can adjust the length of pull, the height of the cheek rest, you can add a sling. (Magpul édition comes with nice sling attachment points. But don't overtight the front one when reassembling to not damage the mag tube) . It is very pleasurable to shoot, one of my favorite firearms.
In my opinion, after owning a winchester 1897, I feel like the retrograde is a bad copy. It looks great but ... Feels like a fraud to me Hehehe . I'd say spend less on the magpull version and with the money left buy ammo or the cheek riser and the mcarbo Spring kit (makes the trigger almost halfway lighter)! But that's my opinion and it's not the only good one.
Whatever version you choose, it's going to be a great shotgun and a workhorse!
Keep me posted!

Shot it for the first time today and loved it. First time shooting a sbs. Not sure what model pump I shot when I was young, but i hadn't shot any other shotgun since I was a teenager before buying this, so I can't really give you a comparison. The 590a1 still has the Mossberg side to side wiggle on the pump but it doesn't bother me. The short barrel is fun with the big flash and it's very handy and looks great

u/gamercast1337 Mar 15 '26
Ooh so the wobble is a "feature" on mossbergs then?? Not a bug?
Im also torn between short barrel and long.... short would definitely make it more unique among my 2 shotguns but I just love the absurdity of a fuckload of shells in the tube the longer barrel ones have.
But thanks for the glowing review... now making me more jealous I didnt pick one up yet lmao, wish they were at like the 800 dollar price point they were a few years ago (like 2ys ago) instead of FUCKING 1200-1500!????

That’s what I’m talking about. This here is a CLASSY starting collection. I’m just missing the TM22 and the Garand for mine. Tho I went with an 870 for my first 12ga

u/Possible_Jellyfish69 Mar 14 '26
Thanks! Sounds like your collection is off to a good start too - enjoy it. My wife says no more guns for a while lol

u/frosskidz Mar 14 '26
Get your wife into gun and she’ll change her mind

u/Possible_Jellyfish69 Mar 14 '26
I'll try - gotta go to the range more times before I'm allowed to bring guests. Told her I'd pay for her Pal, but she's never shot a real gun

All excellent choices, so jealous of the garand..

u/Possible_Jellyfish69 Mar 14 '26
Thanks! Pricey but worth it in my opinion for the extra rounds, less chance of ban and history/coolness factor. Got it a week ago and just shot it for the first time today. Love it

I have almost all 4 as well. Have the 590 retrograde. Not the A1. And some Danish contract M1 in 30-06.
Nice collection!

u/Possible_Jellyfish69 Mar 14 '26
Very cool, I wanted the 7.62nato/308 m1, but I'd love to try a 30-06 m1 to compare

Absolutely perfect. You could do anything with these and got all your bases covered.
But, we all know this is only the start of something greater…
Btw really jealous of your Garand looks beautiful. Might need to get one

u/Possible_Jellyfish69 Mar 14 '26
Thanks! I'm sure my collection will grow eventually, but I think I'll be satisfied for a while. I'm really pleased with the garand. I love the stock and the internals were so clean - looks like it was never fired after being refurbished by the Italians in the 60s

Where did you get the sling for the SKS from ? I picked one up not too long ago , but don't have a sling for it .

u/Possible_Jellyfish69 Mar 15 '26
eBay from China, milsurp. It was cheap and the shipping didn't take too long. I probably should have treated the leather or something, the surface layer cracked pretty bad when bending it to attach it

I really want another Garand..( had one in the 90s). I am worried they get added to the list and ill have another expensive case queen.
2
u/Possible_Jellyfish69 Mar 15 '26
Impossible to predict, but not having a detachable magazine should make it less likely to get banned. Who knows though
1
u/Accomplished-Beat779 Mar 15 '26
Its all a gamble right now but id sure like one

u/Possible_Jellyfish69 Mar 15 '26
I thought about buying a Akdas Alcor semi in .223, using the 10 round cross mags, and getting a furniture kit for it to make it more tactical. But I thought the chances of it getting banned is too high with the detachable mags, and it would be about $2300 with a furniture kit and tax. There's also the browning bar mk3 and mk4, and the Benelli R1 308 autoloaders for a similar price, but they only hold 4 rounds. There's the backland hunter from crusader too, but I haven't heard good things. Not many options

Bro, which model of the tm22 is that, and is that the 10rnd mag cover or the 15rnd cover from tommy ent.?
1
u/Possible_Jellyfish69 Mar 15 '26
It's derya tm22 pro with polymer mags. Its the 15 round cover from Tommy. Not sure I'd recommend it, as I've had times when inserting the mags moves the sleeve and then prevents the mag from being fully inserted again without pulling the sleeve back down a bit. I may just need to tighten up the bolts on the sleeve more though
1
u/Infinite-Bill1072 Mar 15 '26
I see that tommy sells another mag cover that seems to be heftier than the one you bought, but that one's only for the 10rnd
TM22 Magazine Sleeve – PMAG Style – Tommy Enterprises
Is the build quality good at least?
2
u/Possible_Jellyfish69 Mar 15 '26
Pretty nice fit and finish for what it is, but the seams aren't perfect. It definitely looks better than the stock mags. When it works it feels more ergonomic and makes the mag well easier to find too. I'm gonna tighten the bolts more and see if that fixes that issue
1
u/Infinite-Bill1072 Mar 15 '26
Sounds pretty cool, might I ask why you didn't go with the metal version of the mag? I'm pretty sure he sells both
2
u/Possible_Jellyfish69 Mar 15 '26
I think his are all 3d printed plastic, and the option is for whether it's fitting a metal or polymer mag, but I could be wrong
1
u/Infinite-Bill1072 Mar 16 '26
Oh okay that makes a lot more sense, I was confused as to why all the images were the same and why he'd be selling plastic and metal for the same price.

These posts are so cringe.
"Look how much money I spent in X amount of time!"
0
u/Possible_Jellyfish69 Mar 16 '26
Lol, sounds like you're pretty focused on money
1
u/escv_69420 Mar 16 '26
Nah not really. I just dislike braggarts.
I think it would be more tasteful to just be showing people your nice gun collection rather than posting the time it took for you to blow thousands of dollars like it isn't a big deal. It's tacky, and it happens constantly on here.
To be clear, your post isn't even that egregious. There are some that are like "69 seconds of PAL" and show off an arsenal that would make a 3rd world nation jealous.
1
u/Possible_Jellyfish69 Mar 17 '26
I think you perceive other people who are enjoying the hobby and sharing their collection as bragging simply because they mention how long they've been collecting, and because you personally think they've spent too much of their own money too quickly.
Everyone's income level is different, and so are their perceptions of how large a purchase is. You only see it as bragging because of your own circumstances and perspective. People spend thousands to go on vacation for a week or two all the time. I've wanted guns since I was a kid, I'm 33, and I've been busting my ass for years. After waiting almost a year for my pal, I was ready to buy some guns, and I shared my new collection.
If you think buying some guns is blowing thousands of dollars, then I'm not sure what you're doing in this sub.
