Fix my gun How to plug a Canuck hunter

Post image

I just bought this Canuck hunter 20 gauge used and it didn’t come plugged. I cannot figure out how to get the mag tube open to insert a plug. Tried prying the circle cap you see out figured as is was like other spring retainers but didn’t budge, any help is greatly appreciated.

Is there somewhere to buy a plug for this instead of making something Jerry rigged?

As others have said most pump shotguns have just a piece of wood dowel with a couple o rings.

You'll never see it so don't worry if it looks ugly.

First time plugging a shotgun, are the o rings just on the dowel to stop it from rattling? My concern is it’s such a small diameter that I don’t want the plug breaking off in there if it is a wooden dowel.

I've never had that kind of cap with a hole in it in any of my shotguns, but the plugs I have removed only had 2 o-rings, one on each end, for what I would assume is to dampen the rattling. I'm not a hunter, that's why I remove mine.

From looking at the picture I'm assuming the hole is roughly a 1/4". I wouldn't worry about a dowel breaking, as it won't really have any pressure on it, it will just stop you from putting more than 2 shells in the mag tube. The pain will be cutting it down to the correct length for the correct amount of shell. Just insert 2 shells, drop the dowel in so it touches, pull it out roughly 1/2" and mark on the dowel where you will cut. Just remember the moment you drop it in, it will be a see you next Tuesday to get back out without fully disassembling the mag tube.

You could always in theory drill that hole a little bit bigger if the diameter of the plug worries you. You could also do this if you so wanted to put a couple o-rings on it.
