My stock S&W grips broke at the threaded insert. I'd recommend upgrading your S&W 586 grips to something more durable (I went with Hogue monogrips).

I will keep that in mind. What I'd like actually is a set of nice rose wood grips that fill out the back. I have a set of G-10 ones but they don't fit my hands very well.

I've heard good things about Amazon sellers based on Thailand, which has a bit of a gun culture. Wood grips are also easily modified or refinished if necessary.

But yeah, I was unpleasantly surprised when the OEM grips just fell apart, thankfully not while firing it.

It's odd how the G-10 grips that I have (got the pistol from my buddy..... he had them installed) are like a birds head style but are not comfortable to shoot, yet my actual birds head grip SAA in 357 is fine.

I definitely want a set of squar but wood ones that fit the 686.
