Fix my gun Canuck 30-30 / Advice?
Just purchased a Canuck Lever Action 30-30 (Boss) from my local gun store. Currently seem to be having some issues with the way the action, slide and hammer work. Some clearance issues. It seems to open with minimal issues but closing is almost impossible as it hangs up on the hammer. Anybody have any experience with this particular issue, or have an advice? Currently still unused. Wanted to be a birthday present for my dad in May but obviously not if im gifting him problems. Thanks

I'm not seeing anything wrong with the pictures at least. Make sure it's cleaned and lubricated. It will hit the hammer, that's how it works

I believe Odell covers warranty on the Cannuck firearms and should come with 3 years. I'd reach out to them imo.

My warranty claim with them they didnt even ask for the year of purchase they just fixed it

Damn. I just ordered one of these recently and was hoping they would be problem free as a 336 clone. Not many reviews out on them yet, but hopefully this will help a bit, maybe.
I have the Rossi R95 in 357mag (same action design). Then I also ordered a 30-30 Canuck in stainless and laminate that was on sale which hasn't arrived.
My R95 was a little bit stiff, it was actually I think the bolt just ever so slightly binding up on the ejector inside the action. Could that be what is actually going on here instead? The ejector, is the tab/little arm on the inside of the action stuck to the side of the receiver, you should see the bolt pushing it back down as it closes and spring free from the side of the receiver when opening.
Mine was only ever so slightly stiff on closing, but I polished up the surface of the ejector and it helped. I also just worked the action a bunch at home and it has improved significantly.
The Canuck may have a slightly different action design than the R95 but they are both based on the famous 336 design. That's where I would look rather than the hammer bring the issue. A little bit of 1000 grit sandpaper can go a long ways sometimes for smoothing stuff out too.
I don't know a ton about 336 actions but just a thought on it. That's where the little bit of stiffness on my R95 was coming from.

The R95 or the Canuck? I got my Rossi R95 in 357 for 1199 at Tenda, the R95 in 30-30 was a couple hundred more. The Canuck I ordered in stainless with the laminate stock in 30-30 was around $1250, so significantly less than any other brand for a stainless and laminate model. The few reviews I've seen on Canuck levers have actually been quite good overall surprisingly and I think they do come with a pretty good warranty through O'Dell in Canada. The 336 is a proven design and the good part is, most if not all 336 parts should be cross compatible with it, I think, so it's not like getting parts should be difficult for diy repairs unlike some Turkish guns.

Everyone mad at the prices of SKSs and the cope semis we have left. But Turk levers selling at over 1200 is just buckwild.

Yep.. crank that baby a thousand times and then see how it moves .. my canucks were all a little stiff , but she's smooth ass a butter now!

Not my first Lever action, im quite comfortable with them. This is the first Canuck Lever ive purchased, I like the look of this over the Henry, and where I am at the price is significant enough for any brand name step ups. Why I thought this was strange/uncomfortable to use. Can definitely force through it, but in the event you gotta make shots in quick secession thats going to be a challenge. Might just need to get broken in 🤷🏽♂️

Smith and wesson 1854s are similar. Have you run the action smoothly? If you go slow the 1854s hang up but if you run it smoothly they dont. Not sure if the canucks are the same but i wouldnt be surprised if they were

S&w 1854 does the same thing ! That’s the design, check the loading gate to make sure it’s align properly and the screws are tight
