First and foremost, this is a Canadian Gun subreddit, so keep it at least decently related to both of those things.

This thread is not for general politics, there are plenty other subs that are meant for that. Off-topic threads may be removed, especially if they are leading to personal attacks, flame wars, etc.

To prevent the main sub being flooded with dozens of similar threads, text posts complaining about/asking about/chatting about gun politics will be sent here.

We understand that politics is a touchy subject, and at times things can get heated. A reminder of the subreddit rules, when commenting, where subreddit users are expected to abide.

Keep this Canadian gun politics related and polite. Off-topic stuff, flame wars, negative generalizations against groups, personal attacks and gate-keeping will be removed. Please flag any comments to bring to the attention of mods otherwise exercise your upvoting and downvoting ability.

Let's assume they do hit 50k. Here's a fun fact: according to StatsCan, there are approximately 1000 new firearms imported into Canada for sale every day. Less than two months after the collection date, Canadians will have more guns than they did before the confiscation.

When you're the government, that's what six years and nearly a billion tax dollars buys you.

Oh it gets better then that. Even if you were to look at the lowest year for gun imports on record (1999 btw.) it was still 37,688 that year. So in a matter of less then two years even using that data there would have been more guns in Canada then there were taken from this ‘buyback’ program.

Love these numbers, I mean the government is already lying hard core that 152,000 guns are affected when it’s actually 2 million. No wonder this country is in shambles, they lower the bar for success and still can’t clear it.

Yep. They already have moved the bar so damn low for what they consider success... And they can't even get that. To get 50% compliance they will need to have gotten 76,000 guns using the 152,000 number. It's hilarious how they probably won't even get that.
