First and foremost, this is a Canadian Gun subreddit, so keep it at least decently related to both of those things.

This thread is not for general politics, there are plenty other subs that are meant for that. Off-topic threads may be removed, especially if they are leading to personal attacks, flame wars, etc.

To prevent the main sub being flooded with dozens of similar threads, text posts complaining about/asking about/chatting about gun politics will be sent here.

We understand that politics is a touchy subject, and at times things can get heated. A reminder of the subreddit rules, when commenting, where subreddit users are expected to abide.

Keep this Canadian gun politics related and polite. Off-topic stuff, flame wars, negative generalizations against groups, personal attacks and gate-keeping will be removed. Please flag any comments to bring to the attention of mods otherwise exercise your upvoting and downvoting ability.

is the 2020 ban the start of a trend or an isolated incident? honestly feels like the end goal is complete ban of everything. am i crazy?

It wasn't the start of a trend, it was the continuation of a long trend that only took a pause during the Harper years, and then dramatically accelerated again under Trudeau.  

Yes, the goal is the complete ban of everything, and the method is to constantly redefine what is portrayed as a "reasonable" firearm. Campaign on banning only "the most dangerous guns" - and then with every new ban, the window shifts. What was a reasonable gun before is now the new most dangerous gun on the market, and the cycle continues.

i'm about to move into a cabin in the bush. the lifestyle i had planned relies on a couple guns. do they just want everyone to live in the cities?

The grassroots people who push these policies are all city people who have no concept of life outside their bubble and have genuinely no idea why anyone would want a gun, and the politicians who push these policies are largely the Century Initiative types who push massive population growth and density at any cost to keep the economy afloat. So I mean, yeah, they do just want everyone to live in the city at the end of the day, lol. Rural Canada is just for their weekend cottage, as far as they're concerned.

For people from toronto (nice city, weak people) seeing a tree not in a city managed concrete planter is borderline too much nature. Watch em wet themselves when they come out west to cougar and grizz country. And thats still in some of the smaller cities out west.
