First and foremost, this is a Canadian Gun subreddit, so keep it at least decently related to both of those things.

This thread is not for general politics, there are plenty other subs that are meant for that. Off-topic threads may be removed, especially if they are leading to personal attacks, flame wars, etc.

To prevent the main sub being flooded with dozens of similar threads, text posts complaining about/asking about/chatting about gun politics will be sent here.

We understand that politics is a touchy subject, and at times things can get heated. A reminder of the subreddit rules, when commenting, where subreddit users are expected to abide.

Keep this Canadian gun politics related and polite. Off-topic stuff, flame wars, negative generalizations against groups, personal attacks and gate-keeping will be removed. Please flag any comments to bring to the attention of mods otherwise exercise your upvoting and downvoting ability.

Ugh, I don’t like that they’re approaching 50% of the 135k they plan to buyback. A lot of god damn cowards in this country

The 135k was already a shifted goal post to begin with.

They could have 0 declared and they'd still run it and spin it.

This is true, number was 153,000 at first, then they lowered it inexplicably to 135,000.

Come the end of the declaration period, they will say it actually was 50,000 all along and we got 99% compliance

Shouldn't be a shocker that Carney is comfortable fudging numbers. The fact that they did a cheeky split to try to cover the deficit (along with some other incredibly bad accounting practices) meant this was already a fight not rooted in numbers (it never was now that I'm writing it out).

I know, but it’s just annoying knowing some clueless person will read the cbc article on this and be impressed the government rounded up 50% of the banned rifles. Being completely unaware of the actual number out there
