News / Politics / Activism Recurring Canadaguns Politics and Debate Thread

Please post all your Gun Politics or Ban-related ideas, questions, initiatives, comments, suggestions, news articles, and recommendations in this thread. This thread recurs every 14 days.

First and foremost, this is a Canadian Gun subreddit, so keep it at least decently related to both of those things.

This thread is not for general politics, there are plenty other subs that are meant for that. Off-topic threads may be removed, especially if they are leading to personal attacks, flame wars, etc.

To prevent the main sub being flooded with dozens of similar threads, text posts complaining about/asking about/chatting about gun politics will be sent here.

We understand that politics is a touchy subject, and at times things can get heated. A reminder of the subreddit rules, when commenting, where subreddit users are expected to abide.

Keep this Canadian gun politics related and polite. Off-topic stuff, flame wars, negative generalizations against groups, personal attacks and gate-keeping will be removed. Please flag any comments to bring to the attention of mods otherwise exercise your upvoting and downvoting ability.

Forced buy back?

They've already said they aren't paying most people who could participate and that it will be illegal to keep them after October and you'll be arrested if caught.

So they've already removed the "buy" part and added the "force" part.

I don't think they'll go door to door, the optics of that are just to bad and there's no votes to be hard for it.

They want to attack the sks but that's an attack on the FN, hard to tell how that will play out.

I feel like if they add new things with more oic bans after the declaration period is over that sets up the idea that you can't be compensated and is bad PR, maybe implies they would need to run another buy back to cover new items.

I will predict the backland Hunter gets prohibed some how. Just to throw some doom and gloom around

Unfortunately if the Backland goes then they more or less have to ban the M4, because it's the same operating system and you can't really ban one without the other as it would technically be a variant of the M4. We have seen them make stretches far bigger than that to ban guns by variant (I. E, Stirling R9 banned as AR180 variant if I recall correctly, despite only sharing a couple parts (maybe even only the trigger if I'm remembering right??)

They can ban one over the other. Type 81 vs sks for example

I literally was just thinking that too as I wrote that last comment. Too bad the natives didn't latch onto the T81 as well and call it a hunting rifle like the SKS. Funny how one is allegedly such a critical hunting rifle and the other an assault rifle.
