First and foremost, this is a Canadian Gun subreddit, so keep it at least decently related to both of those things.

This thread is not for general politics, there are plenty other subs that are meant for that. Off-topic threads may be removed, especially if they are leading to personal attacks, flame wars, etc.

To prevent the main sub being flooded with dozens of similar threads, text posts complaining about/asking about/chatting about gun politics will be sent here.

We understand that politics is a touchy subject, and at times things can get heated. A reminder of the subreddit rules, when commenting, where subreddit users are expected to abide.

Keep this Canadian gun politics related and polite. Off-topic stuff, flame wars, negative generalizations against groups, personal attacks and gate-keeping will be removed. Please flag any comments to bring to the attention of mods otherwise exercise your upvoting and downvoting ability.

sorry if if this is a generic/overasked question, but im curious what are the chances the amnesty gets extended? I heard they were trying to be for real this time, but I don't know with all the controversy. Thx

I think pretty high. They have 32k guns declared last I heard and we're nearly at the end now. 30k out of probably 2 million. They arent even close to getting all the restricteds declared

Oh wow. And soon people wont even be eligible for compensation right? (march 31 deadline), so even less people will want to give their guns. Maybe they are cooked

"eligibility" and actually being compensated are two different things. The funds are not even there to compensate everyone. Its a scam program from the start. Only the fools are declaring and hoping they get paid.

in that case it seems like they are relying on people declaring their NR's so its basically registered like a restricted, but won't have the means to carry out further enforcement.

I actually had an interesting conversation with a conservation officer out in the woods the other day. By the sound of it, he essentially said they would be looking the other way if the stumbled across someone using a prohib on crown land, safely.  Granted this is not legal advice and this was just my interaction with 1 CO but that was essentially what was implied with the few words he could say on the subject. I do not encourage anyone to try this though.

There was never a shot at compensation in any reality.

No money for it anymore I believe. When it comes time to pay up I cant wait to see the shitshow. Maybe people will sue because the promised money wasnt there. Or people get way less thsn promised. 

If you registered (why) be ready to get like 28 dollar andddd 17 cent.
