News / Politics / Activism Recurring Canadaguns Politics and Debate Thread

Please post all your Gun Politics or Ban-related ideas, questions, initiatives, comments, suggestions, news articles, and recommendations in this thread. This thread recurs every 14 days.

First and foremost, this is a Canadian Gun subreddit, so keep it at least decently related to both of those things.

This thread is not for general politics, there are plenty other subs that are meant for that. Off-topic threads may be removed, especially if they are leading to personal attacks, flame wars, etc.

To prevent the main sub being flooded with dozens of similar threads, text posts complaining about/asking about/chatting about gun politics will be sent here.

We understand that politics is a touchy subject, and at times things can get heated. A reminder of the subreddit rules, when commenting, where subreddit users are expected to abide.

Keep this Canadian gun politics related and polite. Off-topic stuff, flame wars, negative generalizations against groups, personal attacks and gate-keeping will be removed. Please flag any comments to bring to the attention of mods otherwise exercise your upvoting and downvoting ability.

Today's threatening email to restricted holders with banned registered firearms shows you that the system is getting nervous. A majority of people even with fully registered prohibs clearly haven't declared. This program is on the verge of becoming and unworkable failure and serious legal headache for the RCMP and Canadian firearms program. What are they gonna do? Cancel tens of thousands of PAL's and then demand local cops go on door knocking raids for them across the country?

That is the definition of a PR nightmare, they will be at risk of police departments actually refusing to enforce firearms law themselves. I don't think they gameplanned mass non compliance even from the registered owners, they just assumed they would all fold and they could have a nice photo op and call it a day. Unfortunately for them many firearms owners are made of sterner stuff. Hold the line!

What was the latest email to R owners? I don't have my restricted, but curious as to what threats they are throwing around now to make the restricteds comply?  Fuck em! I love that 30k out of 2 million guns is all they got. Still too high, but lower than I was expecting (I was expecting at least 100k guns).

Too bad the news is too busy covering Trump to ever actually look closely at Canadian government policy. God forbid one of our mainstream media outlets criticized the Liberal overlords. It's actually mindblowing that they're still pushing ahead after 6 years, and then the Gary tapes, the country being broke, a change in leadership, almost all police forces saying they won't do it, and multiple provinces outright obstructing and blocking the program.... Yet still, they push ahead. Even Quebec is starting to turn against the program. It's nuts.

It's not just to restricted folks, it's just that the rcmp mailing system sucks lol.

They'll keep pushing it through because there is no punishment for them.

Only thing that changes this is if they lose seats.

Even if they lost seats, they'll just bribe some more weak fake MPs. I have seriously lost faith in all government institutions in this country. Our judiciary is fucking insane and more concerned with being woke social justice warriors than with enforcing the law, and our "democratic" system has now been flipped on its head via floor crossing. The inefficiency and waste is unreal.

Carney even announced while in India, he's given 150 million in scholarships specifically to Indians. I didn't get my apprenticeship covered though? Why the fuck is our government paying for Indians to go to school, instead of Canadians? Went on off a bit of a tangent here, but it shows just how insanely backwards our country is when our government is more concerned about helping foreign students than it's own citizens.

and our "democratic" system has now been flipped on its head via floor crossing

Or in other words, the government is refusing to abide by the results of the election. The government is Jan 6-ing the populace.

When elections stop meaning anything democracy has failed; when elections stop meaning anything there's only one way to get proper political representation.

AB is on the right track here- it's clear Ottawa (to say nothing of the rest of Canada) will never permit them to achieve their policy goals, so now they must seek other options.

The email is in a different tone from the other ones because the cops know we own probibs rather than a “just in case you do”. Just as cops assume you’re guilty until proven innocent the email was the same tone. As a current law abiding citizen I am within my rights to tell them off until October 30th until which I will be a criminal as will tens of thousands of others. But until then I’m not going to let them threaten me with emails so I email them back every time. Who cares if it gets read it’s the principle of being spoken to like you’re less than human for “maybe” breaking a law in the future
