First and foremost, this is a Canadian Gun subreddit, so keep it at least decently related to both of those things.

This thread is not for general politics, there are plenty other subs that are meant for that. Off-topic threads may be removed, especially if they are leading to personal attacks, flame wars, etc.

To prevent the main sub being flooded with dozens of similar threads, text posts complaining about/asking about/chatting about gun politics will be sent here.

We understand that politics is a touchy subject, and at times things can get heated. A reminder of the subreddit rules, when commenting, where subreddit users are expected to abide.

Keep this Canadian gun politics related and polite. Off-topic stuff, flame wars, negative generalizations against groups, personal attacks and gate-keeping will be removed. Please flag any comments to bring to the attention of mods otherwise exercise your upvoting and downvoting ability.

We’re now in the final stretch of the declaration period, hold strong folks!

The mobile collection units do not exist and represent a massive liability for demented chipmunk. Off duty and retired cops simply will not take this risk on while guaranteed to not be paid benefits should anything happen.

5,000 people attended the CCFR Quebec rally and the QC public safety minister is now distancing himself.

Every police force in about 90% of the country has now refused to participate making the logistics of this program near impossible.

BC already issued a memo to demented chipmunk saying we want to do this but we won’t be ready for October.

We’re winning this! Stay strong everyone!

They have missed so many off ramps and still decided to continue with this nonsense. I think they are going to press on to save face.

The best case scenario for us would be they collect a few dozen guns, make a big press conference to showcase the confiscated GSG 16 that they are about to send to Ukraine and declare mission accomplished, great success.

We all become "criminals" on technicality but the laws will likely be unenforced or unenforceable, practically status quo, "don't ask, don't tell" kind of situation.

This never happened with the LGR, amnesty was extended endlessly until it ended. That's what I expect here.

Would be kinda funny if they decided to grandfather after collecting what was declared though

That also happened with the 1994 bans, initially it was turn in without compensation and they scared people with prison. Some did and the they grandfathered all the holdouts. So the weak kneed pansies lost their property with no compensations and a sweet sweet 12.x license. Government loves to screw over those that comply.
