This is the fundamental fallacy of the left.

They have so much faith and belief in the state that they literally cannot comprehend disobeying the state. It's the same radical lack of comprehension that turns people into religious extremists, they're just prostrating themselves at the altar of government, not God.

Particularly when there are well known routes for people to acquire illegal firearms. Routes that, maybe can never be fully closed (see: War On Drugs), but certainly can be tackled and effectively controlled.
