RPAL Timeline, Alberta applicant:

04 Nov 2022 - Sent paper application via registered mail

10 Nov 2022 - Application received by RCMP

08 Dec 2022 - Credit card charged

15 June 2023 - Follow up email sent to Alberta Chief Firearms Office asking for an update/if there was any assistance I could provide to expedite the process

17 July 2023 - Response to follow up email received stating processing is completed and card has been mailed out (confirmed with my references & spouse that none of them were contacted)

From what I have read doing follow ups definitely helps to push things along. I mean even just my 1 email and it "magically" completed lol

They literally investigate the background of applicants. Perhaps you have a more common name or something completely different that they need to look in to.

Maybe your application landed on the desk of a less efficient worker.

We are not permitted to know how the process works.

How much faster? I have been waiting 5 weeks on my PAL and the status hasnt changed from "Application successfully submitted". Neither of my references has been contacted

I know that. However the 28 days refer to the minimum time before a license can be issued. Processing could start earlier or are they really waiting 28 days before it even ends on some office desks stack?

Process probably starts earlier, but we are not permitted to know the CFP and CFO processes. Secret.

Do you happen to have the email? I’ve been cleared federally since April of 2022 and I’m still waiting.. I’ve sent 2 emails got 1 reply but still no PAL.
