Does anyone have a guess as to what’s going on ? My pal was received by the RCMP at the end on January 2023 online, it states that its still being processed. RCMP has stated everything is good on their end and its being processed by the CFO. I have no criminal record or anything. A friend submitted his application first week of March 2023 and it was issued the first week of April.

I called the CFO office and spoke to someone, she couldn’t give me a reason for the delay and then stated that there’s a minimum 6 month wait for new PAL applications. This doesn’t line up with what my friends experience was or any of the other recent online application experiences I’ve read on here. Any idea what’s going on or what if any action I should take next ?

Nothing is going on. Two months is just the start for mailed in applications. Wait can extend for 4 - 6 months plus and that's standard. There's no issue with your application or the process. I waited 5 months for my license and that was almost two years ago.

Did you friend submit his application online by any chance, because thats the difference if so. Seems like online applications are going through a different processing route than mailed in ones.

But in terms of mailed apps, there's nothing 'wrong' with yours. Your timeline is standard.

No, the time RCMP commits to process is 45 days. Without checking boxes there is no excuse. Anyone that decides to simply accept anything beyond 45 days is being taken for a ride because they are too afraid to be deemed a naughty boy.

OP should email / call / have references call / MP / ombudsman / etc

4-6 month processing time for mailed applications has been the standard for literal years.

There is nothing 'wrong' with his application.

Once again, there are people who get theirs in 30 days (recently and “literally years” back) and the “standard” stated by RCMP is 45 days. Do some people take months / years to get theirs? Yes. Is that reasonable? No. If it’s not reasonable it’s because there is no reason. If there is no reason then push to have it processed according to the standards.

The people that are getting theirs in a month are people who are applying through the newly minted online service.

I have not heard of anyone applying through snail mail getting their license in a month.

You're also moving goalposts. No one here is arguing what is or isn't 'reasonable.' That's an entirely different discussion as to what a normal timeline is for a snail mailed application. It's normal in Canada to wait 18 months for a hip replacement. It probably isn't reasonable having to do so.

There's no reason to believe something is 'wrong' or 'up' because he hasn't gotten his snail mailed PAL after 30 days. That certainly is not the norm regardless of whether you think it's unreasonable.

There may be some random outliers out there like people who got restricted transfers approved in a few days (without calling in) compared to people who had already been waiting for 6+ months, but it's certainly not standard to get a mailed in application completed after a month.

How about 11 months and counting for a mailed in application that according to the last phone call to the CFO "the application looks great, nothing wrong with it at all" just needs more processing time.....?
