I’m going down to the states for Easter this weekend and given the ammo prices up here and all round lack of ammo I’m thinking of bringing some back up. From what I can find online the explosives act allows you to bring 5,000 rounds for personal use, obviously this cannot be restricted ammo. Just wondering if anyone has done this before and how it was at the border? I’m travelling with 1 other person and don’t want to hold them up for 4 hours, thanks.

As a Canadian citizen they cannot legally sell you ammo. Not sure how it works in a dual-citizenship situation.

Is that true? Or maybe new? I went down to the states 10ish years ago and went to a gun range to rent some guns and they told us it would be cheaper to buy ammo from Walmart than from them so we did without issue. No id or anything. Maybe they just don’t check?
