Sighting a rifle in. What’s the best distance? I have always been told 100 meters. A buddy said 200 meters because that’s when the bullet reaches its ‘highest point’ during its trajectory. I have never heard this before as a reason to sight in at 200 meters. Reference I have a browning ab3 in .308.

The distance you are going to shoot it.

If you are out hunting what do you feel an ethical distance would be? In Ontario forests you won't get a 200 yard clean shot.

If you are target shooting, the target distance.

200m peak to the parabola is a gross oversimplification, it could be 2000m at the right barrel elevation.

The "highest point" thing doesn't make any sense. Bullets drop. They don't rise. There are a few other reasons one might do this, but his reasoning isn't based on knowledge of firearms or how his gun works
