That is very possible but there are two problems

• He can't argue for them like MacGregor could
• Julian is fully supported of the way the current handgun freeze is

I had expected MacGregor's motions to take up the most time for the rest of the SECU meetings, but I doubt that now. I wouldn't be surprised if the rest of the amendment are rapid style voted on and it gets sent to the Senate by the end of February.

I feel that the amendments will be reintroduced. I also feel that this is pyrrhic victory for us. The withdrawal of the amendments has taught the LPC some lessons. They might not be as aggressive next time and slowly bleed the types of firearms available. We also lost MacGregor as a champion for our cause. We are still losing handguns and I’m sure the amendments will be reintroduced. Gun control is a distraction from all the other shit going on and it’s working as intended

I have great respect for MacGregor for the heat he brought to SECU. But should we go as far to say he was he was a champion of our cause? The issues he brought forth to SECU was mostly procedural issues with G4 and G46 being massive changes to the bill. I don’t recall ever hearing much from him with regards to handguns or AR’s. Correct me if I’m wrong though, I could have very easily missed something.

He went above and beyond to consult with gun owners and he still would have been great to have on the committee, but there’s almost an implication being made that he was aiming to throw the entire bill out, which I don’t think was ever the case. I think anyone who was hoping for that misjudged what was actually going on. I think we were quick to latch on to someone, anyone who went against the grain on this issue and that I can understand.

The best it was ever going to be was two steps forward and one step back.

That being said, the NDP is still in no position to support anything beyond a prohibition on handguns and AR’s when it comes to bans, since doing anything more will just piss off their constituents again and we’re right back to the November blowout. They’ve come down so hard the amendments that there really is no going back.

More amendments will be made to C-21 before they send it off to the house. And more will probably be made before it ever reaches royal assent, assuming it gets that far before a surprise election. Wether or not they’ll be significant amendments or administrative ones we have no idea.

I don’t think he mentioned anything about handguns or AR’s that’s true, however he did do quite a bit I think. I used that word just because we did lose an important person in our corner. I agree we are quick to latch on to anyone because not many people are vocally standing up for us that aren’t in the CPC

If it’s any consolation, I really don’t think they’re going to make any more aggressive amendments to the bill for a while. The backlash was too big, and they faced scrutiny from all sides and within.

That’s true for sure because it alienated rural ridings which all parties possess. I believe part of the backlash coming from the AFN had a big impact. I am cynical about changes to the law because I don’t trust that we will ever be left alone. Pre-2020 was okay in terms of what we had but honestly pre-90’s crack down was the best. That’s what I hope the CPC can do for us when they form government next. I also want a distinctly Canadian firearms culture that is separate from US culture. That’s my ideal vision for the future of Canadian firearms ownership

The Liberals could lose every single rest-of-Canada riding (outside of the city seats they compete with the NDP for) and still form government. Similarly, the NDP could lose every rural seat to the Cons and still have their special privileges. And that's not even getting into the provinces, the most populous of which are gerrymandered so hard it makes even US politicians jealous.

As such, they know they can get away with never leaving you alone; this "representative democracy" might as well be empire, by and for people who hate you (thanks in large part to US culture, for that matter- they use the rhetoric they do because of their exceptionally stable political system, while the countries that take it seriously have no such defense mechanisms).

I also want a distinctly Canadian firearms culture that is separate from US culture.

I want to impose my Northwestern ways on the East because my ways are correct and theirs are wrong; I'll settle for a distinctly Northwestern culture in the same sense as Quebec's.
