Sawed-off Saturday (all legal)

Post image

Legal length reminders:

- barrel can’t be cut below 18” (18.5” semi auto)

- overall length can’t be cut below 26”

While there’s no tape measure in this one to show the lengths, they’ve all been featured in other posts to prove their legality.

Just a glimpse into my mad bubba mind. Next one I cut I may try some funky wood refinishing colours. Or perhaps some metal engraving. Or a bubba special rattle can. Or for that matter, if someone has some crazy idea they’d like to see, I’m open to all suggestions!

And now you have 3 shotguns that are awful to shoot.

It’s not as heinous as one would expect

I mean, I guess, as long as you aren't super interested in hitting stuff much beyond what you can physically hit with the gun itself, all in a form factor that's way more cumbersome than a pistol and lacks sling studs like a conventional short shotgun.

Lacks sling studs? Two of them have slings. Plus the pistol train has left the station and they couldn’t be carried in the bush anyways (without a ton of paperwork and even then it wasn’t a guarantee)

12 gauge loads are very diverse. I shoot 2.75" 9 pulled buck out of my raptor grip 870 and it's very fun and surprisingly easy.

Come on, gotta show more feet!

Come on, become a felon like the rest of us. Lol

Honestly I wish we could cut them barrels shorter. I'd love to shorten some of the bolt actions into a super handy little rifle.  I suppose I should just be happy with cutting it down to 18.

They look great but I love me a stock. Can't imagine shooting a shortie without one

Obrez. I'd love to have an Obrez.

The mare’s legs are a decent substitute for a proper “sawed-off” rifle. But the commenter below is right, an obrez Mosin would be pretty sweet

Ive seen a few of your posts now and Im kinda tempted to join in amd make my own. Except I dont know what I would use a shorty shotgun for?

Intersurplus has a ton of old shotguns for dirt cheap. It’s a pretty wallet friendly entry level gunsmithing project. In other words, it’s cool to do if not just for the novelty of it

Fun, and makes for a good grouse gun.

Need a shockwave.

That was my first gun I ever bought. Can confirm it started me on my journey to SBS’s and SBR’s

Isn’t there a rule that they have to be cut by a gunsmith?

7

u/matthew_py Feb 07 '26

Nope, just can't cut it under 18 inches. Get the hacksaw ready lol.

No sir, except maybe in Québec (where the long gun registry I believe still registers barrel length and overall length). The barrels and stock can be cut at home provided they’re not chopped below the length requirements

Barrel length is an optional field if I remember right.
