Hello. I just got confirmation I passed by CFSC. Originally wanted to try the CFSRC before applying for my PAL.

Any reason to even do the CFSRC course, at this point? For instance, what gun that may not be affected by the handgun ban is found on the restricted list?

Also, I still need to finish the CFRSC and get my results before applying for the PAL, correct? What if I applied for the PAL right now and did my CFRSC while it's still being processed? How would restricted firearms be added to my licence then?

There are hundreds of restricted firearms that aren't handguns and there's also always a chance the freeze gets reverted by a future government.

There is reason to go for restricted, seeing as it's possible some non-restricted firearms may be moved to the restricted category. And it's also possible that eventually handgun transfers will be allowed again, and if that announcement comes then there will be long waiting times for the restricted course.

I thought so (about the long waitlist in case of reversal).

Are you privy to a way that the current govt could make the current ban permanent, and that, as such, any future govt could not reverse it? I'm not very knowledgeable on the topic, but there is no such thing as permanent, law-wise....just very hard to undo. And unless it requires the constitution to be opened, most statutes are not that hard to undo, especially by any future majority govt.

Our system of government does not allow a past government to handcuff a new government. The only thing is a constitutional change, or a supreme court ruling. Neither of those have any real chance of happening.

However, making a law (vs. OiC) definitely makes it more difficult to undo.

You would likely need a conservative majority to reverse it easily.

Yep. It's basically short barrelled rifles plus handgun with barrels a certain length (although now handguns are banned). This, yeah, doesn't seem to cover much that's legal, anymore.

And don't forget, borrowing. A restricted PAL currently allows you to borrow a handgun from a family or friend who trusts you.
