My first gun was a mosin 91/30 you can find them anywhere from 450-650$ it shoots 7.62x54r (a little larger than 308) it's not the most accurate at around 5 moa but it should work fine for hunting and target practice. Non-corosive ammo is 1$/ea and corrosive is like .5$/ea. Unless you get the sniper variant mounting a scope is not really possible without irreversibly modifying it.

Edit: it's also incredibly reliable

I definitely like the look of them and my grandfather always said they were decent rifles so I think this is a good suggestion as well especially if I can get one for a decent price. As long as you regularly clean your rifle is corrosive ammo that harmful to the firearm?

The corrosion starts immediately after firing but if you clean it as soon as you get home it should still last a long time. Still better to use non corrosive ammo if you can afford it especially if it's a more rare variant
