Weekly Newbies & FAQ Thread - Post your questions here for PAL/RPAL application, timelines, CFSC/CFSRC, references & requirements, or general new to firearms ownership -type questions

This thread will be used for the "new"-type questions, PAL/RPAL applications, references, CFSC/CFRSC requirements, storage/transport, or other general "new-to-me" firearms ownership questions.

In response to this thread, the community was quite positive for a thread to cover these subjects.

Is it a rifle or handgun? Rifles don't need to be registered (unless she lives in QC). If it's a handgun talk to a lawyer because it's a serious crime to have an unregistered handgun (full stop, don't keep reading or talking about it).

Does her dad have a pal? If yes he should just legally transfer it.

If he doesn't, Did she get her pal before or after may 18 of 2022? If before she could have taken possession before May 18th and there's no paper trail. If after then someone broke the law by giving her the gun without getting a transfer number... Not sure if she did by receiving it.
