Just got my new handgun, didn't really want it but it was now or never lol. Couple questions regarding transport and stuff.

  1. Do I have to call the police every time I'm taking it to the range?
  2. Am I allowed to take it to the range and then stay the night somewhere with it in my car trunk (in an opaque case) at a residence that is not associated to my PAL/RPAL?
  3. I received the handgun with an orange plug in the barrel, is this the same as having a trigger lock or cable lock (or am I technically breaking the law storing it with just this?)

Appreciate any insights or add anything you think I should be aware of that I didn't mention

Thanks for replying, I'm reading this and it seems like I do need an ATT to transport it to the range?

Even if it's an overnight stay at a motel for a competition. But you cannot store it in your car.

*The edges of Ontario are six and sixteen hour drives from here so there may be some stops.

Your license is your ATT. You’re allowed to take it to any range in your province without special permission.

2: I've heard people say they asked the CFO for an ATT to do just that and theCFO said no they don't need one. But I'd recommend you email them and ask so you have your own written proof. The idea that you'd have to explain to a cop how someone in the internet told you it's legal isn't where you want to be.

Update: emailed them and asked and you DO need an ATT
