Your friend holds onto the firearm until the transfer is approved by the CFO. When the transfer is approved, you'll be sent a Transfer Notification Slip that will let you take possession of it. This acts as an ATT that will let you take it home, where it must remain until you eventually get mailed an updated RPAL card/conditions slip and the registration certificate for the firearm. The card/conditions slip/registration certificate combined will act as an ATT that will let you take it to any approved firing range in your province, so long as the conditions slip says as much. To take it anywhere else will require manually applying for an ATT for whatever specific time and purpose may be required.
