I have my RPAL, my friend has a PAL. I am going to the range with him. My question is do I have to stand within arms reach like a guest on the range with no PAL, or can we both be at separate shooting booths right next to each other? I know he’s not and idiot so I’m more worried about legality vs safety.

I would ASSUME that if you are letting them shoot your restricted you would need to be within area reach as they are not licensed for that firearm. Similar to if you let someone shoot a rifle who has no pal, they aren’t licensed for that firearm and legally you need to be within arms reach.

If you are both shooting nr then I don’t see an issue. I am only, and have only, been a member to one small rural range so rules might vary drastically, but my range does not require me to directly supervise someone with a pal/rpal. They just need to sign a waiver as a guest.

Ask your range... Different ranges will have different rules...

Yeah I sent them an email, more want to make sure it’s legal as part of the PAL.

As far as I'm aware it's legal to lend someone a firearm of a class they're allowed to own. So like another comment said, if it's nr, you shouldn't need to be in "direct supervision" legally. But for restricted I think you do.

The reason I said check with your range is that they may have their own rules for non-member guests. Not so much "legal" issues as in the law... But following your range rules so you don't get the boot from the club
