Well I know that copper plated hollow point CCI is one of the few 22lr that will cycle in my 10/22. Other brand CPHP also usually cycle okay. Round nosed lead is a no go - it gets caught during the action.

My understanding is that picking correct 22lr brands and types for your gun is especially important in semi's on account of cycling issues. For bolt action it's really just a matter of what you are using the ammo for.

I see - I grabbed a box of CCI recommended at the LGS and it’s working fine in the bolt action so that checks out. I’m just target shooting.

A bolt action should feed almost any round, even stuff that a semi can't (low velocity CCI Quiet) because you are cycling the action manually. Therefore it doesn't need to overpower the spring tension and bolt mass to cycle which some rounds don't have enough energy to do.

So the cheap bulk pack stuff should feed/eject well from your bolt action. However, if you want to achieve better accuracy do some research on how to compare results between various 22LR ammo brands. Your rifle will shoot some ammo much better than others and it won't necessarily be based on price.

You could probably use most brands/makes. Would just need to get a small box of a few and try them out. Will you ever hunt with it? The gun will need to be re-sighted when you switch ammo.

Personally, I just bought bulk CCI and use the same brand/make for plinking and everything else on account of the ammo being so cheap, and I don't shoot more than 2000 rounds in a year.

For sure, that's why I pick the small box first before I move to the bulk one, but it seems there is no bulk anywhere now after PTEsoup pointed out, lol.
