This may sound dumb but I would like to ask: can I put a handgun on hold by simply buying it from gunpost and wait until my rpal arrives before transferring it?

I'm not saying this is a good idea, but I'm not sure if this is true. In firearms law, possession is 10/10ths of the law. I don't see why it would be illegal for somebody to pay money to hold a gun until their license arrives, as long as it never ships until it's fully legal.

Also on the side of the fence that you’d be able to, but as the seller I’d be crystal clear in writing that if anything goes wrong with the transfer I’m keeping the money and surrendering “your” firearm to the police. As long as the seller gets the money I don’t think most people would make a big stink about storing it for a little to help someone out

I don't think it would go that way at all. If the seller could then successfully sell it to another licensed owner, you could refund the original amount.

Nothing illegal has happened, in my opinion, as long as the physical firearm hasn't been transferred.
