Hey guys, I had a question for you all. I have an old revolver that is currently classified as restricted, but I'm am almost certain that it is actually an antique after doing some research. Now, how do I go about getting it reassessed by the RCMP for them to proclaim it as an antique and therefore "not a firearm"? I have evidence from some reputable sources but I have no idea if there is even a way to do something like this at all. Any help would be appreciated, thanks guys.

You need to find a registered firearms verifier in your area. They will confirm that the classification is antique, photograph the firearm and send all information to the rcmp. Once the rcmp approves the reclassification, the handgun will be removed from the registry.

I might sound like/be an idiot, but is there an easy way to find a verifier? I could not find anything on the web. Is there a database or something? I plan to call some local gun shops and ranges to see if they have any info but if it can be done easier than I would like to do that.

There is no database and unfortunately there aren't many verifiers left. Your best bet would be to call local gunshops and gunsmiths. Out of curiosity what kind of revolver are you trying to get re classified?

An old Webley. I thought it would be cool to just hang out at crown land firing an antique legally. Would end up being the crown jewel of the collection for sure.

Also, is it expensive to be a verifier? Do they make you jump through hoops? Would it be lucrative to do if I wanted to? Just some pondering on my part

Even if it’s verified as antique I would not go shoot it on crown land just cause the issues you’ll have with shooting what looks like a restricted not at the range. It’s not a smart idea to attract all this extra attention into a sport that’s really been attacked this year because it’s “not safe”

Fair enough. I wouldn't want to be strong armed into the back of a cop car with my shit taken just because they don't want to read or listen. And yes, we don't need any more attention than necessary.

Plus I recall where antiques supposed to also be chamber empty or something I could be wrong

You can carry an antique fully loaded on crown land and I absolutely would feel comfortable to carry if I owned one, the MNR guys that you occasionally encounter are usually far more understanding when it comes to gun ownership than most regular police. If I were you I would attempt to get an rcmp letter that confirms the revolvers antique status to completely protect yourself from any bad interactions with police.
