With the CPC willing to stop the committee from adopting the regulation proposal it appears more and more certain our doom date is October 4th.

With that in mind I wouldn't be surprised if stores restock some handguns during the summer. I highly doubt they wouldn't be able to clear their stock over 3 months.

Only after the committee approves of the regulation or 30 sitting where the committee does nothing.

How did this work for the AR15 bans? I don't recall any of this drama when that went down.

Thats actually part of the big lawsuit, they didn't follow proper procedures.

The government decided to avoid all that and just do it the legal way this time.

Everything about c-21 smells of fear over this lawsuit. They wouldn't have received much public backlash had they just repeated a may 2020, but the legal threat may have been enough to stop them. Which is a little reassuring.

I think perhaps you're reading too much into it. C-21 isn't well drafted as a law, but that's due to lack of experience in the Public Safety shop. And it's working entirely as intended as a PR effort, which is all it was ever intended to be, so... Mission accomplished?

I really don't think the government gives a flying fuck about the lawsuit. Worst case, they're informed the decision isn't going their way, and they simply legislate those guns into the prohib class - and in doing so, get another headline news story that feeds Tom Pitfield's election engine.

Hell, if anything, they probably are thoroughly pleased with how many of our resources have been tied up in a court battle that will never matter, and hoping they get the chance to tell Canadians how they're once more keeping us all safe by responding to the Supreme Court decision with more "proactive" legislation.

That is a really good point. It's just everything this government has done has been incredibly calculated, it's hard not to put the old tin foil hat on.
