Hey so I have my RPAL, but I have never bought a restricted firearm until now in light of recent events.. I am from BC, bought the Silvercore membership, and then bought a handgun online from a shop in Ontario, the order was pending for a few days, but last Friday the order got updated to "CFO Transfer Pending", so now I am wondering if there's anything I have left to do except cross my fingers and hope the transfer is approved? Anyone else in the same boat? What happens after the transfer is approved?

Tillsonburg Gun Shop, I checked the Google reviews before buying, seems reputable?

Edit: What happens after the transfer is approved? Just get's shipped out, then what?

Keep an eye on your email. Your provincial firearms office will probably contact you requesting to see proof that you belong to a club/range. Once you reply and show them your membership and they approve the transfer, they'll email you a Transfer Notification Slip that will let you take possession of it. Once this happens the store will be informed that the transfer is complete, and they will proceed to mail it. If it goes to your post office instead of your door, just go and pick it up and take it home (you'll need your ID and a signature). Once it is in your home, keep it securely stored per the law, and keep it there until you receive two letters in the mail. One will be the Registration Certificate for the restricted firearm. The other will be a new RPAL card that will have a slightly different PAL number (the decimal value will be incremented) and it will be attached to a new Conditions Slip that should now include the condition letting you take it to the range for target shooting. Contact your range/club to let them know your PAL number has changed.

Use the time while waiting for this mail to read the manual and watch any videos on the firearm. Learn how it operates, how to take it apart and put it back together, and how to clean it. Practice ACTS and PROVE with it. Shop around and acquire anything else you might need in order to use it (a sturdy/lockable container for transportation, some locks for that container, cleaning kit/supplies, ammo, safety glasses and ear plugs if you don't already have them, etc).

Once you have the Registration Certificate, RPAL and Conditions Slip with the range permission, you can now take it to the range.

If your RPAL is set to expire but you receive a new one based on it being your first R purchase, will the expiry date on the card be reset? Or must you apply for a renewal still?

This is a good question, and one that I have not experienced nor heard the answer to.

My gut is telling me that the expiry date and all other information will likely be the exact same. Renewels cost money afterall, and they'll also want an updated photo when you do renew. So if your PAL is about to expire, you'll still need to fill out the renewal form like normal and provide the updated information and money they request. I'd also recommend doing so well in advance of the expiry date if its coming up.
