Who's going to tell these Liberals that carrying a firearm within 1000 feet of a school is a felony in all 50 states.

Unfortunately the shooter didn't give a fuck about the law and did it anyway.

And have y'all noticed that these shooters are attacking schools, supermarkets and other places where no one has a gun? It's almost as if gun free zones are the easiest targets.

Thank God for that border patrol agent who happened to be near the school and took the shooter down.

You can carry within a 1000 ft of a school with a CCW permit in AZ as I understand it. Although AZ is a constitutional carry state, you can't carry near a school as previously stated and a few other places like National Parks, and restaurants serving alcohol without one.

Having said that most other countries have less people armed and less school shootings. Arming more people in the schools doesn’t seem to be the fix. I have no idea what is.

We're living in a culture and society that needs fixing from the bottom up. Mental health is one of those factors that is neglected a ton. Guns aren't and never will be the problem, the 1% of psychotic fucks will still find a way to hurt others.

I agree which is why I believe gun laws that include felony checks and that would flag people with mental health disorders are a must to save the hobby. Handing out guns to every asshole with a drivers license is insane but the US won’t have it any other way.

Our government banning guns because they look spooky is dumb as fuck though.

Guns aren't just a hobby, first and foremost.

There will never be any nuance or grey area when it comes to gun ownership. We're on one end of the extreme and the US is on the other. Freedom and liberty come with innate risks as we've seen in the past decade, so pick your poison.

It's not a fantasy. Guns are the only thing that keep a tyrannical government at bay. What next, the government has F16s and tanks so we should just roll over and accept what they do to us?

If potential gun owners are scared of the social implications and gravity of what owning a gun entails, they aren't gun owners to begin with

Who decides what a mental health issue looks like? You vote conservative? Maybe that makes you a right wing racist so no guns for you. Maybe you got in a fight when you were 18 and signed a peace bond to make it go away. Violent crime, no guns for you for life.

I mean that argument goes both ways. Do you believe everyone regardless of their criminal past should have access to guns? I believe if you have committed a violent crime, or have attempted suicide your access to guns should be limited.

Sane people do terrible things all the time, you can find a lot of it on reddit. The problem in America is that literally anyone that hasn't committed a felony can buy a gun. Think about the angriest or shittiest person you know going to a gun show in Kentucky and buying an AK with just their driver's license. That should worry every American. Here, we have to go through a lot of BS just to get a gun but it works, I trust other gun owners here because they had to go through the same stuff I had to. The gun laws are basically fine, it's just that we have people that don't know anything about guns making laws about guns.

Again, like I was saying earlier, guns aren't the problem here. They're inanimate objects and they're not inherently evil.

There's a broader discussion to be had about the state of mental health among people nowadays but that's starting to go off topic. as it is, lots of people need assistance. The past two years of isolation hasn't done anyone any favors either

We have mental health issues in Canada, we had longer and stricter lockdowns, we have a mental health crisis but we don't have a school shooting crisis, what do you think the difference is? It's the access. Gun ownership shouldn't be considered a right, it's a privilege and people need to show that they have (atleast) a basic sense of responsibility before we hand them guns.

Gun ownership is a right. We have guns in Canada, we arguably have a stronger hunting and frontiersman culture than the US, but we can't take handguns and certain rifles out in the bush when we go hunting or camping. And what do you think the difference is? America's gun rights are protected by their constitution. Gun ownership NOT being recognized as a right is exactly why gun culture is in such a shit state right now.

And before anyone else reading this starts twisting my words, I can't believe I have to say this but what happened in Texas is horrible. If politicians have security teams, school should as well.

Wow that seems like a really minor inconvenience compared to the dead children problem. Also funny how you suddenly ditch the mental health crisis thing you were talking about. You admit that we have a crisis and that there are psychopaths but you want more guns for them? Move to America, seems like you belong there.

What seems like a minor inconvenience? Gun rights? It's not an inconvenience. Guns are arguably a necessity, I don't think I need to point at history or contemporary events to prove it.

I ditched the mental health crisis talk because as I've said in another comment, it would go wildly off topic and have nothing to do with a fireams related subreddit. The amount of times I've had to clarify that to users here is crazy.

Who said I wanted psychopaths to have access to guns? I sure as hell didn't say that.

E: and trust me, I'd move to America if I could right now but the funds won't allow it.
