Fix my gun / Modding Calgary area gunsmith

Looking for a small local gunsmith or someone with a lathe in the Calgary or south of Calgary area to help me shorten a shotgun barrel.

The end split open but I’ve inspected and had it Mag particle inspected and found where the crack ends and I want to cut it an inch or two past the end of the crack

I want it done on a lathe instead of using a saw or something so it’s straight and a clean cut to avoid any more cracks forming or issues on the end. And I’m not interested in waiting for the Calgary shooting center or some place that has me waiting 2 weeks for a 15 min job

You'll be lucky if you get that done in 6 months not 2 weeks. Gun Smith's are notoriously busy with stockpiles of work. And anyone not busy probably you don't want them working on your weapon.

I had some specialized gunsmithing work done by Connor at Calgary Shooting Centre and he did an awesome job - exactly what I was looking for. Not sure if they perform the kind of work that you’re looking for, but I wouldn’t hesitate to use CSC again if I needed something done.

Machinist here; while I am no where near you geographically and do not know any machinists or gunsmiths in the area, if worse comes to worst & you cannot find anyone who can do that mod I would suggest that in lieu of using a lathe you could use a pipe or tube cutter to score the initial outline of the cut and then hit it with a saw, then use a chamfer tool to recrown and add a chamfer to the inside of the bore while using a file to clean up the outside of it.

Could also befriend some of the apprentices at your local trades school & throw a bit of money or a case of beer their way to pop it in the lathe and shorten it. When I was in machining school we were not allowed to “create” weapons, but the teacher didn’t care if we did other things, one classmate literally brought a 10/22 in to use in the sandblasting booth. The day Covid struck same dude brought a trash bag filled with shotguns and went to work while we still had time in the shop before campus was shut down for the coof.

I guess what I am trying to say is there is more than one way to clip a barrel.

Crawford's Crosshairs is in Airdrie, if that helps but definitely a little drive from south Calgary.
