Fix my gun / Modding ghetto cheek riser
mounted a red dot on 1301, couldnt get a cheek weld on it without the dot disappearing.
grabbed some foam from a gun case, used double sided tape, then strapped it down with zip ties. seems pretty stable but havent used it with rounds yet.
cowitness achieved, what issues could arise from this. just put together a ghetto quick solution for turkey season.

If it works for you and your buddies aren't going to give you too much ribbing about it, go for it.
If you're taking it out hunting, I might worry about it a bit getting wet and not providing a comfortable cheek weld surface, but maybe you just cover it with duck tape? I dunno.
I think a lot of people get caught up in super-Gucci solutions that don't really add much to the experience. If you get your co-witness and your cheek weld and it doesn't bother you when you're aiming or shooting, more power to you.

that is exactly what i plan on doing with it, im not a gucci solution guy at all. rather spend that on ammo. i was thinking of using the duct tape but i dont want to get residue on the stock afterwards. we will see how it shoots soon, hopefully moisture doesnt make the foam too nasty

For the work, a simple Chinese buttstock riser is going to me 200% better than this
Like they are so cheap, I have one for almost every gun

Don't mean to intrude lol, but i personnally have tried multiple and i narrowed it down to either Tourbon or Wayne's Dog if you feel a little less cowboy, i think this one would look great on a 1301, i have it on my Midwesf industries 45-70 and i love it, very well made for the price point

Just like the other comment, Tourbon or Wayne's dog are the 2 brands I use too! Amazon has them for a bit more, but Aliexpress, the original Temu, Sells them for 5-10 bucks cheaper than Amazon

I recently made a cheek riser using foam pipe insulation secured with camouflage bandage type self adhesive wrap. Bought the wrap online for $14 for four rolls. It works well at keeping everything in place and can be removed quickly, leaving no residue.

I used foam drawer liner, doubled over a few times and wrapped it in hockey tape. Its much more comfortable than it should be.
